It's been 3 months since our last update on the restoration of our old Emergency Van Sanatoga Unit 58-81 and since it has been a popular question as of late, we'd like to share some updates.

The warm spring has allowed alot of progress to be made! New front brakes and brake hardware have been installed, new plugs, wires, and a full tune-up and oil change has been completed. The original carburetor has been cleaned and rebuilt, the fuel system has been drained, flushed and refilled. Some more troubleshooting has been performed on the wiring and several light bulbs and broken or missing lenses have been replaced.

Now for the fun part! As a result of the hard work of a dedicated group of members, the van is now moving and driving under its own power for the first time in 15 years!!

58-81 also got its first good soap and water bath and scrubbing in a long long time. It was pressure washed over the winter in an effort to get some of the growth off, but this true washing saw years of mold, mildew and filth run off the roof and sides of the truck and has allowed us to begin paint restoration and polishing work.

Last Saturday, members spent the evening at North End Fire Co. No. 1 for our Annual Awards Banquet to celebrate all their accomplishments in 2025.

In 2025 the members of Sanatoga Fire Company responded to 470 calls for service with 1,591 total man hours of service, and attended 152 training classes resulting in 2,577 man hours of training. In addition to running calls and attending training classes, members also attended 59 special service / fundraising events with 2,008 man hours of service.

We are incredibly proud of all our members for their accomplishments and the dedication they have to not only Sanatoga Fire Company, but to the residents, businesses, and passerby’s of Lower Pottsgrove Township. Congratulations to the 2025 award winners!

Stations 58, 59, and Fire Police from stations 51, 77, and Chester 64 are currently out on 422 with a vehicle accident involving a dump truck. Be advised 422 EB and WB are both shut down to one lane between the Evergreen Rd and Armand Hammer Blvd exits. Please use caution when traveling in the area and expect delays.

Thursday Evening leaders from across Montgomery County including our very own Chief came together to announce a new recruitment and retention campaign lead by the Montgomery County Fire Chiefs Association. Their goal is to recruit 250 volunteer firefighters countywide in recognition of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence this summer!

Thursday Night Training - This week our training put together multiple skills that were practiced over the past few weeks. We were joined by Upper Pottsgrove Twp. Fire Co. and together crews ran thru multiple roll-in evolutions where crews exited the apparatus and performed basic fire ground functions such as pulling hoselines, forcing entry, throwing ground ladders, going to the roof and searching for and removing victims. Crews also practiced firefighter mayday procedures.
