๐Ÿš’ GRANT COUNTY REHAB TEAM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ๐Ÿš’

HELP SUPPORT THE FIREFIGHTERS WHO PROTECT GRANT COUNTY

When firefighters battle a major structure fire, grass fire, or long-duration emergency, the work is physically exhausting. Heavy gear, intense heat, smoke exposure, dehydration, and fatigue can quickly take a toll โ€” and thatโ€™s where the Firefighter Rehab Team comes in.

Grant County Emergency Management is currently seeking community volunteers interested in helping with Firefighter Rehabilitation (REHAB) as part of the Grant County Emergency Management Volunteer Auxilliary.

The Rehab Team responds to major incidents throughout Grant County to help firefighters and emergency responders safely rest, recover, rehydrate, and return to duty. These volunteers play a critical behind-the-scenes role that directly supports firefighter safety and operational effectiveness.

๐Ÿ”ฅ WHAT DOES THE REHAB TEAM DO?

Volunteers may assist with:
โ€ข Setting up rehab shelters, tents, tables, heaters, fans, and chairs
โ€ข Providing cold water, sports drinks, snacks, and meals during long incidents
โ€ข Helping firefighters cool down or warm up depending on weather conditions
โ€ข Supporting our firefighter carcinogen-reduction program by distributing towels and washcloths so firefighters can clean soot and contaminants from their skin
โ€ข Assisting EMS crews with non-medical support tasks
โ€ข Tracking firefighter rotation and accountability
โ€ข Refilling SCBA air bottles (for those comfortable and trained to do so)

๐Ÿšจ WHO SHOULD JOIN?

This opportunity is ideal for people who:
โ€ข Want to support firefighters and first responders
โ€ข Enjoy helping during emergencies and community events
โ€ข Prefer a support/logistics role rather than direct emergency response
โ€ข Are dependable, and willing to learn
โ€ข Want to be part of a structured emergency management team serving Grant County

No firefighting experience is required. Training and equipment will be provided.

The Rehab Team is only one part of the broader Grant County Emergency Management Volunteer Auxiliary. Additional opportunities will also exist in areas such as:
โ€ข Disaster damage assessment
โ€ข Shelter and survivor support
โ€ข Emergency Operations Center support
โ€ข Logistics and supply operations
โ€ข Drone operations
โ€ข Communications support
โ€ข Vehicle and equipment maintenance

Thank you to those who literally answer the call and are instrumental in the work that we do! Grant County is very fortunate to have these individuals!

Today marks the start of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2026. On behalf of the Grant County Sheriffโ€™s Office, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to our public safety telecommunicators, at the Grant County Sheriff's Office and the Platteville Police Department, for their exceptional dedication, professionalism, and service.

In times of emergency, telecommunicators are often the first voice heard by those in crisis and the first point of contact with law enforcement or emergency services. Their ability to remain calm, gather critical information, and coordinate an effective response is essential to the safety and well-being of our community.

Our dispatchers provide critical information and ongoing support to emergency responders in Law Enforcement, Fire & EMS, and Emergency Management, while also serving the public with professionalism, compassion, and care. Their work is vital to ensuring timely communication, coordinated response, and public safety throughout Grant County.

We are grateful for the important role our telecommunicators perform each day in service to the citizens of Grant County. Please join me in thanking each of them. Their commitment, compassion, and professionalism do not go unnoticed.

Yesterday we finished our 2026 Refresher! The highlights of the day included Labor & Delivery, a race on medication knowledge, a scavenger hunt in the ambulances, and safe removal of helmets, among other topics.

Once again, we would like to thank Dallas Dietzel and Southwest Tech for providing this training!

Our EMRs, EMTs, and AEMTs from Potosi EMS, Lancaster EMS, and Cassville WI Fire & Rescue returned to the classroom today with ambulance operations and a table-top exercise on incidents that involve large numbers of patients and collaboration with neighboring agencies. Stay tuned for tomorrow!

With the rising sun as a backdrop this morning, Ambulance 287 left Potosi for the final time (somewhat). Our 2009 Ford E450 chassis will be replaced and the patient compartment will be re-mounted on a new truck chasis. Stay tuned for the final result in the coming months!

Fire Danger upgraded to VERY HIGH today for Grant and surrounding counties due to a combination of wind, low relative humidity and dry fuels. ALL BURNING IN THE DNR FIRE PROTECTION AREA (most areas North of Highway 18 + Wyalusing Township) IS PROHIBITED. Residents in the remainder of Grant County are strongly encouraged to refrain from any outdoor burning, including burn barrels.

Wisconsin law provides that a person responsible for causing a wildfire is responsible for all suppression costs and also liable to landowners for damages caused by that fire--in some cases liable for double the damages caused.

For a current list of burn restrictions updated daily (around 9am), please visit the WI DNR Burning Restriction page at https://apps.dnr.wi.gov/wisburn/ #/BurnRestrictions

Grant County will conduct warning siren testing in all municipalities on Monday. In some areas, this will consist of a brief โ€œgrowlโ€ test, where the siren is activated and then quickly silenced. In other communities, the tests will run for a full siren cycle.

These tests are part of the transition to our new countywide radio system and are being conducted to confirm that all equipment is operating reliably and as designed.

These tests are NOT a part of Wisconsin's statewide tornado drill, which will take place on Thursday, April 16th (stay tuned for more outreach on that!)

A busy month of training continued last night as some of our seasoned members worked with newer members in partnership with Grant Regional Health Center to conduct a patient care scenario. This drill encompassed the full series of care from our arrival to the patient (with thanks to Lancaster EMS for allowing us to use your simulation manikin) to delivery to the Emergency Room. This was an excellent way to practice low frequency skills in a low-pressure setting and to share perspectives on care.
