🇺🇸 Big changes are happening in the Idaho National Guard! 🔄

As part of a major modernization effort to stay ready for the future fight, the IDNG is officially trading in its heavy tanks for agile, modern Infantry Squad Vehicles (ISVs). 🚙💨

This historic transition means the Guard is shifting from an armored brigade to a highly mobile infantry brigade—making our troops lighter, faster, and more adaptable than ever before. ⚔️🛡️

The 116th is the only National Guard engineering battalion to have served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars.

The inactivation is part of a broader transformation of the Idaho National Guard, which is shifting from an armored brigade with tanks to a mobile infantry brigade equipped with infantry squad vehicles.

Backpacking 101: Get Trail-Ready (All Ages) - Thursday, June 4 (5:30 pm)

Curious about backpacking but not sure where to start? Join us for a one-hour Backpacking 101 course at the Library, hosted by Idaho Trails Association and led by experienced long-distance hiker Taylor Tevis. Taylor has completed the coveted “Triple Crown” of hiking—the Pacific Crest Trail, Appalachian Trail, and Continental Divide Trail—and will share practical, real-world knowledge to help you hit the trail with confidence. This beginner-friendly session will cover everything you need to know including trip planning basics & safety tips, how to choose the right gear, what to pack, and intro to beginner snow travel. As an organization dedicated to keeping Idaho’s hiking trails open and accessible, Idaho Trails Association is excited to help more people feel confident getting outside and exploring public lands.
