During National CPR & AED Awareness Week, we’re reminding our community that ordinary people can do extraordinary things in an emergency.

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, at any time, and immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival before first responders arrive.

If you see someone collapse:
☎️ Call 911
🫀 Push hard and fast in the center of the chest
⚡ Use an AED if one is available

You do not have to be a medical professional to save a life. Learning Hands-Only CPR and how to use an AED could help you save a friend, family member, coworker, or neighbor someday.

Kootenai County Fire & Rescue also offers a free self-taught Hands-Only CPR class for local businesses and organizations looking to help prepare their employees and teams for emergencies.

This week, we encourage everyone to take a few minutes to learn, refresh, or share these lifesaving skills. Together, we can help build a safer community for everyone.

Last weekend, Kootenai County Fire & Rescue hosted a Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) class presented by the National Fire Academy.

We had members from Kootenai County Fire & Rescue, Northern Lakes Fire District, and Hauser Lake Fire Department in attendance for a great weekend of training, discussion, and collaboration focused on the challenges of WUI firefighting and leadership for company officers.

A huge thank you to the National Fire Academy instructors and everyone who participated and helped make the class a success. Training together strengthens all of our departments and ultimately benefits the communities we serve.

This Memorial Day, we remember those who never made it home.

Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to something greater than themselves will never be forgotten. As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the day and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.

The KCFR Business Office will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

Wishing our community a safe and meaningful holiday.

🚑 National EMS Week 2026 is HERE! 🚑
May 17–23 | “Improving Outcomes, Together.”

This week, we celebrate the incredible EMTs, paramedics, and EMS professionals who show up every single day, ready to respond, ready to care, and ready to save lives.

This year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” says it all. Our EMS heroes don’t work alone; they partner with hospitals, fire services, law enforcement, public health, and their communities to ensure every patient receives the best possible care from the moment the call comes in.

To every EMS professional in our community: THANK YOU. Your skill, compassion, and dedication make a difference that can never be fully measured. We are so proud of you. 💙

🎉 Celebrating Milestones at KCFR 🎉

Today we’re taking a moment to celebrate something really special—our people.

Across Kootenai County Fire & Rescue, team members are marking milestone anniversaries in 2026 ranging from 5 to 25 years of service. Each of those years represents dedication, resilience, and a genuine commitment to this community.

Whether serving on the front lines or supporting behind the scenes, every one of you plays a part in what makes KCFR strong.

Thank you for the time you’ve given, the care you show, and the difference you make every single day.

We’re grateful to have you as part of the KCFR family.

Yesterday KCFR provided Hands Only CPR training to health students at Post Falls High School. We now have about 90 more people in our community who could potentially help save a life from cardiac arrest! Early CPR can make all the difference in those critical first moments before first responders arrive.

We’re incredibly proud to see local students taking the time to learn these lifesaving skills and helping build a stronger, safer community for everyone.
