Eagle Scout candidate recently Eryn Flechtner completed her service project, building and installing five Mason Bee habitats at Paradise Creek Nature Park. She and her fellow scouts planted native pollinator plants throughout several of our gardens. 🌱🐝

Why this is such a win for our environment:

🐝 Mason bees are native to North America and among the most efficient pollinators in our region.

🐝They’re named for their unique habit of using mud and other “masonry” materials to build their nests.

🐝They naturally seek out cracks in stones, hollow stems, and small dark cavities—and well‑designed habitats give them safe, reliable places to raise the next generation.

🐝Native plants provide the pollen and nectar these bees evolved alongside, strengthening the entire ecosystem.

A footbridge at Paradise Creek Nature Park in Portsmouth has reopened after nearly a year of closure due to structural damage caused by sun exposure.

The bridge, a key part of the park's 1-mile loop trail, was shut down after sun damage rendered the wood unsafe to walk on. The city closed the bridge while searching for a contractor capable of handling the specialized repair work the structure required.

Larry Lapell, operations manager at Paradise Creek Nature Park, said the lengthy closure came down to one challenge.

Since opening in 2019, the Paradise Creek Nature Park
playground has been well loved and consistently used by the community. Children have climbed, played, and explored here every day, and that steady use is a reflection of how valued this park truly is. As a result, some of the existing equipment has reached a point where updates are needed to ensure the space continues to meet the needs of those who use it most.

Today for Give Local 757, there’s even more reason to give. Thanks to an anonymous donor, every gift will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $5,000. That means your support goes twice as far to help restore this special space.

This 24-hour match won’t last. Every dollar you give brings us closer to creating a refreshed playground where children can play freely, families can gather comfortably, and visitors of all ages feel welcome and included.
