Portsmouth Volunteers For The Homeless

Portsmouth Volunteers For The Homeless Lifting Hearts. Lifting Lives. Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless, Inc. We are a non-profit organization and operate with grants and donated dollars.
(1)

We are the primary provider of emergency shelter for single homeless individuals, helping our clients achieve self-sufficiency, through supportive services and collaboration with other organizations in Portsmouth. (PVH) is a non-profit organization that offers night emergency shelter services, year-round, in addition to operating a service center for individuals who are currently homeless. Our goa

l is to help shorten the amount of time an individual is homeless and assist their transition towards a permanent housing solution by working with other agencies in our community. The shelter services are for individuals who are literally homeless, sleeping outdoors in places not meant for human habitation.

When we say we're more than a shelter...

78 yr old gentleman with notable medical history seeking shelter. Med history is slightly beyond our capacity. Many months sleeping outside.

What do we do? 🤔 What we can to help! 👐🏼

✅️Contacted APS regarding assisted living or nursing home assessment.
✅️Discovered he has an outstanding criminal issue that he wants to address.
✅️Navigated him in addressing criminal issue without incident.
✅️Received back to PVH Service Center from custody.
✅️Accepted into shelter.

The real work begins tomorrow...
☑️barrier assessment ☑️problem-solving
☑️re-housing planning

People aren't disposable.

When individuals are ready to put in the work, we'll meet them where we can to make a difference in their lives! 💜💙

We do this with your support, your donations, your prayers and your encouragement! ✨️

☀️📦 Summer Volunteers Needed for Emergency Meal Box Delivery!

As temperatures rise many homebound seniors in our community face additional challenges accessing food and essential supplies. Our Summer Emergency Meal Boxes provide non-perishable meals and emergency support items to help older adults stay safe, prepared, and nourished during potential emergencies.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help deliver these boxes throughout June. Even giving a few hours of your time can make a meaningful difference for a senior who may otherwise go without support!

Delivery Dates:
📅 June 1 – June 12
🕘 Monday–Friday during business hours

If you are able to help, please email [email protected] or call (757) 222-4522 with your availability, and we will match you with a delivery route.

Thank you for helping us care for and support older adults in our community, especially those who need it most during this season!
