Greeting primary voters at Portsmouth High School with Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) this morning were Portsmouth Democrats State Rep. Michelle McGaw (D-71), Karen McDaid (School Committee), Juan Carlos Payero (Town Council), John McDaid (candidate, Town Council). If you haven't voted yet, make a plan to get to the polls. Today we celebrate the people who keep our town running — teachers, town crews, small business owners and their employees, and everyone who shows up and puts in the work day after day.

Labor Day is a good reminder of what built the middle class in this country: fair wages, safe workplaces, and the idea that hard work should lead to a decent life. That's not an abstract value here in Portsmouth — it shows up in how we treat our town employees, support local businesses, and invest in the people who make this community work.

Enjoy the holiday with family and friends, and take a moment to thank a worker near you.

A great article in the Portsmouth Times about how council member Mary McDowell was proposing a resolution to have a two-member advisory panel made up of council members. This goes against the Portsmouth Town Charter.

You should be alarmed at what she was trying to have passed.
