🌈 June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.

It is also an opportunity to raise awareness that domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. LGBTQ+ survivors often face unique barriers when seeking safety and support, including fear of discrimination, isolation, and limited access to affirming services.

At the HER Shelter, we believe every survivor deserves to be heard, supported, and empowered on their journey toward safety and healing. This Pride Month, we stand with LGBTQ+ survivors and reaffirm our commitment to providing compassionate, inclusive services for all.

Help us refresh and prepare rooms for families experiencing homelessness.

Adopt a Room is a volunteer and donation program through H.E.R. Shelter that allows individuals, families, businesses, churches, and community groups to help transform a room for a survivor and their family.

Instead of simply donating items, participants “adopt” a specific room and work together to create a welcoming, comfortable, and healing space for residents entering shelter.

What an Adopt a Room Team Typically Provides

* Bedding (sheets, comforters, pillows)
* Towels and washcloths
* Laundry baskets
* Storage bins
* Lamps
* Wall décor
* Small rugs
* Hygiene products
* Cleaning supplies
* Welcome baskets
* Children’s items (if assigned a family room)

Why It Matters

When survivors arrive at shelter, they are often leaving difficult and sometimes dangerous situations with very few belongings. A thoughtfully prepared room helps provide:

* Safety
* Comfort
* Dignity
* Hope
* A fresh start

How the Program Works

1. Sign up to adopt a room.
2. Receive a room checklist and guidelines.
3. Collect donated items or purchase room supplies.
4. Decorate and set up the room during the event.
5. Leave encouraging notes or welcome messages for residents.
