Standing near the city’s 9/11 steel artifact from the World Trade Center, Police Chief Mark Newport asked people to “open our minds and our hearts this morning to honor the brave” people who responded to the attacks.

“9/11 showed the world the true meaning and definition of a first responder,” Newport said, pointing to “the absolute selflessness of running toward danger.

"When everything else falls apart, our dedication and trust in one another holds us together,” he said about first responders, including the men and women of Portsmouth’s police and fire departments.

Hundreds attended Sept. 11 to participate in Portsmouth’s 9/11 remembrance ceremony on the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

We Had Some Fun. 😎

And just like that, street.life! 2026 presented by Sheehan Phinney is in the books!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us at Water Country for street.life! 2026 presented by Sheehan Phinney. You showed up, dressed up, danced, laughed, connected, ate, drank and generally had some fun with us — exactly as intended.

There was a whole lot of magic packed into one evening, and, honestly, most of it is going to live in our memories (and perhaps in a few stories that get better with time).

But thanks to some pretty great photographers, we have a few ways to remember what happened at Water Country After Dark. A special thank-you to Rick of Rick Dumont Images for capturing some of the evening for us — and to all of the photographers who helped freeze a little of the fun in time (please add or send in your photos!)

And for those who weren't quite ready to call it a night, a big THANK YOU to Black Rock Sports Club for hosting pre and after parties and welcoming street.life! attendees to keep the good times going. Because apparently, 8:30 p.m. was not the end of the story.

The Honor Summit is a four-night 9/11 remembrance installation on Mount Washington, featuring two powerful beams of light that honor those who lost their lives, the first responders who answered the call, and the veterans who continue to serve.

25 years later, we remember.

Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and to honor the first responders, service members and everyday people whose courage, compassion and service shaped the days that followed.

Twenty-five years have passed. The memories remain.

🗞The Honor Summit from atop Mount Washington will consist of twin beams of light shining into the evening sky. The lights may be visible over 100 miles away.

At 692 feet, and just over 78 miles away, the summit of Mount Agamenticus is thought to be an ideal viewing location.

Renee Plummer of the Granite Springs Foundation said she dreamt up the memorial in honor of the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

In honor of the 25th remembrance of 9/11, two pillars of light will rise from Mount Washington — the highest peak in the Northeast — beginning Wednesday night.
