What a great day for Portsmouth!

I had the pleasure of attending the Portsmouth Public Schools Annual History Bowl and seeing firsthand the talent, confidence, and knowledge of our young scholars from across all 13 elementary schools.

Congratulations to Churchland Primary for taking home the title it was well deserved!

And on a personal note, it meant a little more getting to watch my grandson compete alongside so many bright students. Moments like this remind me why we continue to invest in our schools and our children.

Our future is in good hands.

Starting the New Year surrounded by the children in our city was the perfect reminder of what truly matters. Their joy, laughter, and hope represent the future of Portsmouth and all that we are building together.

As we step into 2026, I wish every family peace, prosperity, and continued opportunity. When we invest in our children, we invest in the future of our city.

Today, I had the honor of once again welcoming the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated Portsmouth/Suffolk Kappas organization with their outstanding Kappa League youth, to Portsmouth City Hall.

We spent time discussing their goals, dreams, and the challenges they see within our community, as well as the positive changes they hope to see for the future of our great city. Hearing directly from these young men is always inspiring! Their leadership, insight, and commitment to excellence prove that they are most certainly going places.

I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the mentors of the Kappa League, whose guidance is shaping the next generation of leaders. For those unfamiliar, Kappa League is a national youth leadership development program dedicated to cultivating academic success, character, service, and professional growth among young men. Their work is transforming lives right here in Portsmouth.

To the young men I want to say! Keep striving, keep leading, and keep believing in your potential. Our city is stronger because of you! As our City Manager Mr. Carter told you all today MAKE ME PROUD!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

This season always reminds me of what truly matters family, gratitude, and the strength we find in one another. Spending time around the people I love grounds me, and it reminds me why serving the citizens of Portsmouth is such an honor.

I am deeply thankful for our community. Portsmouth is a place where neighbors look out for each other, where tradition meets progress, and where our shared values guide us through every challenge and every celebration.

As we move into the holiday season, I’m grateful for the privilege to serve you, to work alongside you, and to continue building a brighter future for every family in our great city.

Portsmouth showed up strong tonight at The Grand Illumination Parade

I couldn’t be more proud of our incredible Portsmouth Parks & Recreation team. Their arctic themed design was truly a standout.

A heartfelt thank-you to our dedicated Parks & Rec staff and to the Portsmouth Police Department for ensuring we traveled safely through the route. And my sincere appreciation to Portsmouth Fire Rescue & Emergency Services for joining us and representing our city with pride.

Tonight was another reminder of what makes Portsmouth special our creativity, our teamwork, and our community spirit.

Happy Veterans Day from the City of Portsmouth

Today, we honor the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform with courage, pride, and selflessness.

As both a veteran of the United States Navy and the father of a son who has also proudly served our country, this day holds deep meaning for me and my family. The military community is the heart of Portsmouth shaping our city’s identity, strengthening our economy, and reminding us every day of what service truly means.

To all our veterans thank you for your sacrifice, your leadership, and your love of country. We are proud to stand with you, not just today, but every day.

I invite everyone to join us today, Tuesday, November 11th at 11:00 AM in city council chambers for our City of Portsmouth Veterans Day Celebration. Together, let’s celebrate and honor those who have given so much for the freedoms we enjoy.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of my family's commitment to serving 1,000 Thanksgiving meals across the City of Portsmouth, VA, in partnership with Roger Browns Restaurant and Sports Bar and Mercy Drops Dream Center. This year we are serving again!

What an amazing night on County Street!

I had a great time with the city attending the 7th Annual Community Trunk or Treat hosted by Connecting Communities, LLC and Community of Change, Inc. Big thanks to Lateacia Sessoms for another incredible job bringing the community together!

Events like this remind us what makes Portsmouth special with all our neighbors coming together, kids smiling, and everyone having a safe, fun time. Big shoutout to all the volunteers who made it happen and my grandsons favorite Mrs Theresa and a heartfelt thank you to our Portsmouth Police and Fire Department for showing up strong for our children and keeping everyone safe!

This weekend was another great example of what makes Portsmouth such a special community. Huge thanks to the Portsmouth Police Department and Portsmouth United for hosting this incredible Trunk or Treat and Haunted House event!

Events like these remind us that community engagement and positive partnerships between residents and our public safety teams are what keep Portsmouth strong.
