Thank you to everyone who joined the Pease Development Authority- Division of Ports and Harbors last week to celebrate the ribbon cutting at the Portsmouth Commercial Fish Pier!

We extend special thanks to former Governor Chris Sununu, Governor Kelly Ayotte, Councilor Janet Stevens, and PDA Board of Directors Chairman Stephen Duprey for supporting this important investment in New Hampshire’s fishing industry.

Additionally, we would like to thank the Pease Development Authority and Division of Ports & Harbors staff who helped bring this project together, Appledore Marine Engineering for overseeing the construction, and New Hampshire’s commercial fishermen for their valuable input.

The Portsmouth Commercial Fish Pier provides local fishermen with access to essential working waterfront infrastructure, helping New Hampshire’s commercial fishing and seafood industries thrive. Some of the major upgrades include reconstruction of the pier and a nearby seawall, building renovations with space to unload catch and store bait, new fishing hoists, and updated gasoline and diesel tanks.

Great things happen when a community comes together. Thank you again to everyone who helped make this important project a reality and strengthen New Hampshire’s working waterfront for generations to come.

The NH Division of Ports and Harbors (DPH) would like to recognize and thank the New England Gear Extraction and Removal (NE GEAR) Team for their outstanding work removing derelict fishing gear from our coastal waters this past weekend.

NE GEAR is a coalition of six organizations: Blue Ocean Society, Center for Coastal Studies, Gulf of Maine Lobster Foundation, Net Your Problem, Oceanswide, and the Rozalia Project. Since forming in 2024, the NE GEAR Team has brought together fishermen, nonprofits, researchers, and government agencies in a coordinated effort to protect New England's coastal waters.

Their impact has been significant: over 1.5 million pounds of ghost gear have been removed from New England waters to date. This includes lobster traps, heavy rope, buoys, nets, and fishing line.

We are especially grateful for the work led by Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation along the New Hampshire and southern Maine coast. Supported by local fishermen and volunteers, their cleanup efforts, especially in the Isles of Shoals and Great Bay Estuary, have made a visible difference in our harbors and coastline. As of March 2026, they have completed 22 cleanups with 115 volunteers, removing more than 29,000 pounds of ghost gear!

Thank you for keeping New Hampshire’s coastal waters cleaner, safer, and more resilient for future generations!

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 🍃 🌱

We had a busy year at the Pease Development Authority (PDA). Last summer, the PDA, in conjunction with the City of Portsmouth, completed the reconstruction of Corporate Drive, which included important improvements to the Tradeport’s ecosystem.

The reconstruction project included the addition of new drainage systems and catch basins (including hoods) along Corporate Drive. Ten new Rain Guardian Bunkers were installed along the roadway to remove leaf litter, trash, and debris. The debris is captured by a metal grate and corrosive-resistant aluminum filter, which then empty into vegetated swales connected to five high-rate FocalPoint Bio-Filtration systems. These systems are designed to further filter the stormwater by removing solids, phosphorus, nitrogen, and bacteria.

The PDA also installed an infiltration basin to collect stormwater at the intersection of New Hampshire Ave, Arboretum Drive, and Pease Blvd. The basin provides additional stormwater treatment by allowing the stormwater to infiltrate into the ground and reduce potential stormwater impacts downstream.

The Corporate Drive reconstruction project required extensive coordination and planning, resulting in meaningful improvements to the Tradeport for both our tenants and the surrounding environment. We’re incredibly thankful to our team at the Pease Development Authority and the City of Portsmouth for their dedication and hard work in bringing this important project to completion!
