We are so proud of our PHS Interact students. This month they were honored with the Rotary Distinguished Service Award.

They recently hosted a Community Read event featuring It’s Trevor Noah: Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood.

This event supported efforts to fight schistosomiasis in Africa, a deadly parasitic disease impacting over 80 million children and causing approximately 200,000 deaths each year.

Our town may be small but these students have BIG hearts. A true example of Service Above Self! ❤️

The Rotary Club of Portola is a non-profit group with a clubhouse in Portola. We do many community service projects in our community. We are looking for assistance in repainting our club house. Being that we are a non-profit, we are hoping to find discounts on materials and organizations that may want to help support this project. We love serving our community, our goal is to create a meeting space that will benefit our community for years to come!

The PHS Interact Club’s Community Read is a wonderful event that brings the whole community together. If you enjoy reading please join us!

PHS 3rd Annual Community Read & Fundraiser 2026 - Reading for a Cause!

Portola Jr./Sr. High School’s Rotary Interact Club, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Portola, invites the community to participate in this year’s Community Read event featuring It’s Trevor Noah: Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood. This powerful and engaging text offers insight into resilience, identity, and global perspectives—making it a meaningful read for students and community members alike.

Books will be available for pickup at the PHS front office beginning March 31st (Spring Break is from April 3rd - 12th; novels can be picked up before or after these dates).

The Community Read will culminate in a special Community Dinner & Fundraiser on May 29th from 6:00–7:30 PM in the PHS Library. This event will support efforts to fight schistosomiasis in Africa, a deadly parasitic disease impacting over 80 million children and causing approximately 200,000 deaths each year.

Guests are invited to enjoy a South African curry and rice dining experience (suggested donation of $10), along with trivia, a book discussion, and a guest presentation from a travel nurse. All proceeds will go directly toward treatment and eradication efforts.

The Rotary Club of Portola is indeed growing! If you are interested in supporting our community, meeting new friends and having fun at the same time, we would love to hear from you.

Thank you Larry for your words of inspiration and support!

The Rotary Club of Portola is on the rise. Thank you President Chad Hermann for the warm welcome. Chad is also the Plumas County Sherriff and a big Oregon Ducks fan. I had a great time meeting with the board prior to the club meeting learning about the great things they are doing in the community and sharing ideas for the future.

This club has five new members to induct this month! It was my pleasure to assist President Chad in inducting Heather Willis during my visit. Heather worked with Chad when she was a correctional officer at the Pluma County Jail from 2015-2021 and then she went to work at Eastern Plumas Health Care where she currently manages the admissions department at the hospital. She serves on the Portola Pop Warner board as the Cheer Coordinator and works at the Quincy homeless shelter.

These new additions came from volunteering at one of their projects which occur most every month of the year. From their famous Fly in Breakfast, Thanksgiving dinner boxes, Mental Health Awareness Walk, Trunk or Treat and so much more. They also have a great Interact program, RYLA, scholarships, and other youth programs.

Doug McCoy was given the Quiet Rotarian award for all the work he does for the club behind the scenes. Doug attends all of the events and helps plan and provide supplies. He is invested in helping the community through his work at Eastern Plumas Health Care.

President Chad chose Klytia Dutton as the "ultimate" Dream Maker. She provides dedicated service to the Portola High School Interact club providing students a place to learn to lead. She is a board member of the endowment fund and works hard to better the educational services for local students.

This is club is growing and engaging with their community making dreams come true.

We are still buzzing with joy from our Christmas Community Dinner celebration! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for an afternoon filled with laughter, love and holiday spirit.
This year, the Rotary Club of Portola was thrilled to give away bikes to some very deserving kids in our community! Seeing their faces light up as they received their new bikes with Santa and Mrs. Clause was truly the highlight of our event.
We couldn't have done it without the support of our wonderful volunteers, sponsors, and all of you who donated and participated. Your generosity made this event a success and brought smiles to so many children.
Thank you for keeping the spirit of giving alive throughout the year. Happy Holidays, everyone!
