Raphael House of Portland

Raphael House of Portland Listen. Believe. Speak out. An additional 400 survivors receive non-residential advocacy services each year.

Raphael House of Portland is a multi-faceted domestic violence prevention and intervention agency dedicated to fighting the causes and effects of intimate partner violence in a variety of ways. Founded in 1977, we offer emergency shelter in a confidential location, safety planning and advocacy on a 24-hour in-house crisis line, and long-term supportive services through our Home In Hand Housing Pro

gram and Advocacy Center. Nearly 100 families are served in the emergency shelter each year, and over 5,000 callers are offered safety planning and advocacy on our crisis line. Raphael House also works to enact social change and prevent domestic violence by offering free educational workshops to thousands of teens and adults in the Portland area annually. The mission of Raphael House is to provide a foundation of hope for a life free from family violence, and we have been working in this community—offering domestic violence survivors the tools they need to build violence-free lives—for more than 45 years. Raphael House serves a diverse community of women and children escaping domestic violence, and also works to eliminate the causes of family and intimate partner violence through community education and outreach.

What fun! Survivor families gathered in our Advocacy Center for a piñata-making party earlier this month.

One of the many special things about Raphael House of Portland is that domestic violence survivors can continue to access our programs for as long as they need or want. That includes delightful activities like this, that build community and connection.

We hosted a joyful Mother’s Day celebration for survivor families featuring a potluck, beautiful bouquets assembled by one of our advocates, piñata raffle, card making station, and more!

There was even an impromptu tumbling class with some little ones that was absolutely the cutest. 💜

It’s such a special thing to facilitate celebrations like this for families who are rebuilding their lives after abuse!

Thanks to the wonderful community members who baked homemade treats and donated bouquets for survivors in our emergency shelter for Mother’s Day!

After people leave an abusive relationship, choosing how to mark holidays is a big part of reclaiming independence. It’s an honor to support these big milestones and to make sure everyone feels celebrated.

We had a wonderful time at the VOCES de Comunidad Conference, hosted by UNICA and El Programa Hispano.

This bilingual gathering brought together advocates, artists, survivors, and professionals dedicated to supporting the Latine community impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

The day was filled with great sessions, including a keynote from award-winning author and artist Emily Prado, an art workshop with muralist Mario De León, poetry with Boca Ardiente, an AMAZING musical performance and dancing with Las Cafeteras, and more.

There was such joy and connection felt throughout the day!

Plus, we got to celebrate our wonderful colleague Alicia Rios (left photo, center) being presented with the UNICA Service Award in recognition of her 30 years of impact on Latine survivors.

Today is the first day of the National Week of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.

📍 On some reservations, Native women face murder rates 10x the national average.
📍 These disappearances are often linked to domestic violence, trafficking, and gaps in support.
📍 55.5% of Indigenous women have experienced physical violence by an intimate partner.

The crisis demands action!

We had a fantastic time at The People's Courts for our annual staff party!

It was a well-deserved break for our dedicated and compassionate Raphael House of Portland team, who provide 24/7 support for survivors of domestic violence. It was fun to have some friendly competition in pickleball, co****le, bocce ball, and ping pong.
