We are thrilled to announce that The Mighty Red by Louise Erdrich has been chosen as our 2027 Everybody Reads title! We’re so honored to celebrate 25 years of Everybody Reads with our community. Erdrich's book is a story about our tattered bond with the earth, community, and love in all its absurdity and splendor.

Starting in January 2027, copies of The Mighty Red will be available for free at Multnomah County Library locations. From January through March, libraries will host book discussions, programs, and events centered around the themes of The Mighty Red. The culminating event will be an author talk presented by Multnomah County Library and Literary Arts on March 18, 2027, at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

2027, a community reading project of Multnomah County Library, is made possible by gifts to The Library Foundation , with the author's appearance made possible by Literary Arts .

Celebrating the gems of our local literary landscape! We've just updated our e-shelves with fresh books from the last Library Writers Project submission rounds.

Every year, the Library Writers Project makes it possible for local authors to have their self-published books added to the library's collection. These books (and many more!) were written by your neighbors and handpicked by the library staff. Check them out on Libby! 💚

We’ve been spotting those Read 4 Life totes out in the wild and we have questions! Our friend .in.book.land asks, “What’s something that’s always in your bag?” Snacks? Bandaids? A water bottle? A book (or two) for the Max?

Now that our adult summer reading game has wrapped up, we really do want to know: what’s your must-have item for your tote? Tell us in the comments!

Over the summer, this family read together, with the older kids helping their younger siblings meet their goals. Last week, they came into the Midland branch to celebrate a summer's worth of hard work and success.

For this family, the library is a true part of their daily life. Great job to our incredible Midland team for handing out prizes to this crew, and thank you to all our library staff and volunteers for helping to make these moments happen! Can't wait next year's Summer Reading 2027!

Summer Reading is supported by gifts to The Library Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to our library's leadership, innovation and reach through private support.
