📢 Labour Mobility Awareness Session – Sri Lanka

During the month of May, the Embassy of Romania in Colombo, in partnership with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), conducted an awareness session for licensed foreign employment agencies in Sri Lanka.

The session provided an overview of recent developments in Romania’s labour migration framework, including GEO No. 32/2026, updated recruitment procedures, and the WorkinRomania digital platform. Particular focus was placed on 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬.

We appreciate the cooperation of SLBFE and the active participation of all stakeholders.

This engagement is part of the ongoing institutional dialogue aimed at promoting safe, transparent, and well-regulated labour mobility.

President Ahmad Sathique, together with members of International Diplomats, paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of Romania in Sri Lanka and met with Ms. Mihaela Rutjens, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Chancellery of the Embassy of Romania. 🇷🇴🇱🇰

The meeting focused on diplomacy, international cooperation, youth leadership, and opportunities for future collaboration to strengthen global engagement and cultural exchange.

📢 WORKING IN ROMANIA 🇷🇴

Romania has adopted GEO No. 32/2026 to create transparent, fair and safe access of foreign nationals to the Romanian labor market.
The new rules introduce a digital system for managing the recruitment and employment of foreign workers, while providing stronger protections for workers and greater oversight of recruitment agencies.

For 🇱🇰 applicants, this means:
✅ More transparency throughout the recruitment process
✅ Better protection of their rights
✅ Stronger control of Romanian placement agencies
✅ Digital tracking of applications and employment contracts
✅ Measures to combat human exploitation and trafficking

The goal is to make the process safer, clearer, and more reliable for both workers and employers.

Pentru mulți dintre copiii români care cresc departe de țară, limba română e limba de acasă — a primelor povești, a bunicilor, a glumelor spuse în familie. Dar, pe măsură ce cresc, o folosesc tot mai rar.
De aceea, anul acesta de Ziua Copilului, lansăm o invitație simplă pentru familiile românești de pretutindeni: să vorbim românește, să păstrăm vie limba de acasă și să o transmitem mai departe cu emoție, prin intermediul Social Media.

Intră și tu în joc:
Înregistrează un video în care spune (singur sau împreună cu copilul tău) 3 cuvinte românești care îți plac sau care înseamnă ceva pentru tine; pot fi cuvinte amuzante, cuvinte greu de pronunțat sau care îți aduc aminte de ceva emoționant (ex. pupăză”, „zgârie-brânză” sau “mama” - spus in română, e un cuvânt cu milioane de emoții)
Povesteşte / povestiți pe scurt, în video, de ce aceste cuvinte sunt speciale pentru voi
Postează-l pe canalele tale de Social Media, pentru a încuraja şi alți români care se află departe de țară să îşi readucă aminte de limba română şi să o transmită mai departe copiilor şi comunităților lor
Foloseşte 3 hashtaguri care să însoțească postarea ta: , ,
Dați leapșa mai departe, prin tag pe social media către alte 3 familii sau prieteni - provoacă-i să înregistreze şi ei un video şi apoi să facă acelaşi lucru ca tine (să dea leapşa mai departe)
Limba nu este doar despre cuvinte.
E despre cine suntem, oriunde am fi.
De 1 iunie, spunem împreună: româna merge mai departe prin noi. Oriunde suntem, vorbim la fel.

🌈Departamentul pentru Românii de Pretutindeni (DRP) pregătește ediția 2026 a programului „Taberele ARC”, dedicat copiilor, elevilor, studenților și tinerilor români din afara granițelor țării. 🎬 REMINDER: MOVIE NIGHT! YOU ARE INVITED!

On the last Sunday of May every year, we celebrate the Day of Romanians Everywhere.

On this occasion, the Embassy of Romania and Alliance Française de Kotte in Colombo join hands to present a special screening of CLARA, an award-winning Romanian film directed by Sabin Dorohoi.

Clara tells the story of a Romanian mother working as a babysitter in Ulm, Germany, while her 12-year-old son waits for her back home in a quiet village on the Danube — until one day, he doesn't wait anymore.

The movie talks about migration, motherhood, and the invisible emotional distance created by leaving home behind. The screening opens a conversation about identity, belonging, and the sacrifices made by families across borders.

🇷🇴🏆 A historic achievement for Romanian cinema — and a powerful example of European cultural cooperation.

Cristian Mungiu has won the prestigious Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for Fjord, becoming one of the very few directors in Cannes history to win the festival’s highest distinction twice.

Starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve, Fjord impressed international audiences and critics alike through its powerful exploration of political polarization and contemporary social tensions.

The success of Fjord is not only a Romanian success story, but also a demonstration of the strength of the European project. The film is a co-production involving five European countries, showing how collaboration across borders can elevate cinema and culture.

At the same time, Romania is continuing to support the film’s international journey. The Romanian Ministry of Culture has included Fjord among the country’s strategic cultural diplomacy projects in support of its international campaign for the Academy Awards.

🇷🇴 A Romanian masterpiece has just made history.

Danaïde (1913) began as a portrait — Brâncuși's muse was Mademoiselle Pogany, an art student he knew in Paris. But in his hands, her likeness became something far greater: a figure from ancient mythology, the personification of springs and brooks, her face distilled into a form of radical, breathtaking simplicity.

Cast in bronze with gold leaf, and one of only six ever made, Danaïde's pure and essential form is considered by many to be the birth of modern sculpture. Brâncuși intended the work to be experienced in movement — revealing something different from every angle, as if the sculpture itself were alive.

On May 18, 2026, Danaïde was sold at Christie’s New York for an extraordinary USD 107.6 million, setting a new auction record for Constantin Brâncuși and becoming the second most expensive sculpture ever sold at auction. The work had previously sold for USD 18.2 million in 2002 — itself a record at the time.

This historic sale comes during Brâncuși Year 2026 — Romania's celebration of 150 years since the birth of the visionary artist from Hobița who walked to Paris and changed the course of modern art forever.
