🇲🇭 Empowering Our Diaspora: Marshallese Diaspora Survey Initiative 🇲🇭
September 1-6, 2026
This week, the RMI Consulate General in Oregon is proud to support an important collaborative initiative focused on gathering vital data on our Marshallese community living across the United States.
We are working alongside demography experts Mike Levin and Lenny Saumar, as well as local community non-profit organizations OMCA and MANIT, to conduct the Marshallese Diaspora Survey.
Why This Project Matters:
Understanding Our Community: The survey aims to capture accurate statistics on the number, characteristics, and living experiences of Marshallese migrants currently residing in the U.S.
National Development & Future Planning: This data is crucial for the RMI national government to better understand our diaspora and explore ways to connect skilled individuals who may wish to return home to contribute to the nation's economic development.
Empowering Our People: Having accurate statistics strengthens community advocacy and helps local organizations better serve our people in the States.
Data Ownership & Security Sovereignty:
We want to assure our community that data privacy and sovereignty are top priorities:
Full Ownership by RMI: The Republic of the Marshall Islands retains 100% ownership of all survey data and holds sole authority over how it is distributed.
Partner Roles: PacificWeb will maintain a secure backup copy strictly at the request of the RMI government (and will delete it immediately if requested by RMI).
Direct Access for RMI Analysts: The data system is custom-configured so that RMI programmers and analysts can build additional custom data tables and reports directly, ensuring long-term utility for our government.
Thank you to our dedicated team, canvassers, and community partners working on the ground this week to ensure every Marshallese voice and household is counted.
Kommol tata for your continued support and collaboration!
