Portland Opera House Project, MI Restoration of the Portland Opera House. Portland, MI The Opera house makes up the 2nd and 3rd floors above the Pub and Brown's Pharmacy.

The Portland Opera House Committee has been formed to bring public awareness to the Portland Opera House in downtown Portland, (a vital part of Portland’s history), and to improve the chance of this local Gem’s restoration. Volunteers, (including anyone with news articles, history, stories, and photos), are welcome and encouraged to contribute. It was built in 1880 and operated as an Opera House t

hrough around 1920. After that it still served the community in lesser roles. In 1880, the opera house would have seated 800 to 1000 people! By 1920 fire code limited it to 600 people, even still very impressive in size, architecture, and design. The 3rd floor makes up the balcony. We will be posting meeting dates, times, and locations of committee meetings on the events calendar, and wall. Information and photos will be posted as soon as possible. Any input, expertise, and help is greatly appreciated! Sincerely,
The Portland Opera House Committee

What a difference a year makes in the appearance of this building, located at 140 Kent Street. It isn’t totally finished but much progress was made this year.
Vintage Tanning Parlor is located on the first floor and the Opera House Performing Arts Center is located on the second floor. We applaud (get it, Opera House) Timothy Fuller for his dedication.
Fun fact: It took almost 3 weeks and 42 gallons of paint stripper. Source: Timothy Fuller
