QUALIFICATION AND TRAINING Yesterday, coxswains and boat crewmembers from throughout Division 7 participated in on-the-water training and evaluation. All passed with flying colors, and Flotilla 76 also welcomed a new Qualifications Examiner and a new coxswain!

SPOT THE AUXILIARISTS! This past week, two Auxiliarists, including a member of Flotilla 76, had the honor of participating in a four-day SAR Coordination and Ex*****on course given by personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard's National Search and Rescue School based in Yorktown, VA. The course was held in Newport, OR, and was attended by active-duty personnel from throughout the Northwest District, along with two auxiliarists (a coxswain and a coxswain-in-training). Trainings like these help keep our skills sharp and make the Auxiliary a valuable contributor to Team Coast Guard!

5k RUN TO REMEMBER This morning, several shipmates from Flotilla 76 got together for a 5k "Run to Remember" in honor of lost members of the service. After an early fellowship breakfast, they hit some of the beatifully maintained SW Trails in Portland before the heat built (the high today was 91 degrees, a new record). It was a fantastic event for a great cause, and it will definitely not be the last!

VIRTUAL 5k - RUN TO REMEMBER Flotilla 76 is proud to host a virtual U.S. Coast Guard Run to Remember during the month of May. Members may complete their walk/run anytime during May. The goal is to encourage participation, remembrance, and camaraderie. Flotilla 76 Participants who submit their results will be entered into a drawing for three prizes!

VOLUNTEER FOR THE 2026 NATIONAL RECREATIONAL BOATING SAFETY SURVEY! The National Recreational Boating Safety Survey (NRBSS) is a nationwide survey sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard to understand how many people go boating, what types of boats they use, and how often they are on the water. As part of the survey, we are asking for volunteers to complete a brief sign-up page asking about their boating habits and share their contact information with the Coast Guard so a wide range of boaters can be invited to participate in the larger NRBSS survey later in the year.

COAST GUARD AUXILIARY & SEA SCOUTS Did you know that the Sea Scouts, a program of Scouting America, is the official youth program of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary? That partnership was reflected this past weekend, when Portland-area Sea Scout youth participated in Safety at Sea training in Seattle co-presented by Coast Guard Auxiliary personnel, including District Commodore Klaas Nijhuis. The training included navigation, distress signals, firefighting, towing, and more, and was a great example of the Auxiliary and Sea Scouts' common goal of promoting boating safety throughout the United states. Bravo zulu!

WILLAMETTE RIVER PATROLS. Throughout this summer, auxiliary facilities crewed by members of Flotilla 76 and our shipmates from throughout Division 7 have been conducting regular patrols on the Willamette River. Those patrols have involved everything from area familiarization for new crew, training missions for prospective coxswains, and, most important, being an on-the-water presence to ensure the safety of the thousands of recreational boaters, paddlers, and PWC operators enjoying the summer weather. As always, we are Semper Paratus!
