As humans, one of our most primitive drives is for connection. We instinctively seek kinship and alliance with other humans, various creatures, and our environment. As well, as social workers we hold a strong belief in the right of individual self-determination, i.e. each person chooses his or her own path along the journey of life. Viewed in tandem, these help us create working alliances within o
urselves, with our family and friends, and with the communities where we live so that we can create satisfying life experiences for ourselves. As we all know though, there can be many obstacles along the path of everyday life that seem to thwart our efforts to live the life and lifestyle in which we are truly happy. Relationship issues, family or work related problems, as well as personal bouts of depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and difficult adjustments to changing life circumstances can often leave us feeling insecure, helpless, alone, and fearful. Creating Alliance Social Services endeavors to help people cope with these challenges by providing counseling services for children, adults, couples and families, leading peer support groups and classes, and through referral to an extensive array of community resources. In total, these services provide an excellent opportunity for clients to meet the drive for human connection while experiencing their right of self-determination through the creation of meaningful alliances and informed conscious living.
