Did you know that the Chatham Health District will send ticks that have been found on the bodies of Portland residents to be tested for diseases like Lyme?

Just put the tick in a plastic bag, and bring it to any of their offices. You’ll fill out a short form and they’ll send it to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station!

REMINDER: We will be CLOSED Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30 for staff training on our new circulation system. We will resume regular business hours on Monday, June 1.

Summer reading is almost here! This year's theme is Cook Up an Adventure, and the program will launch on the last day of school, June 22.

Registration for June and weekly programs for kids and teens, as well as a program for adults on making sourdough bread, will open on Monday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m.

Registration for July and August programs for kids and teens will open in late June.

This week and early next week while Portland Public Library is migrating over to our new and improved catalog and app (from 5/26 - 6/3):

📚Please still come visit us when we are open! (We will be closed Friday 5/29 & Saturday 5/30 for staff training.)
📚Please bring your library card with you! (Since we will not be able to look you up.)
📚You get extra time with your items, so please hold on to them until 6/4 (if you can).
✅ YES! You will still be able to use Libby and Hoopla!
✅ YES! You will still be able to browse the online catalog, but the info will be a snapshot from 5/25, so it will get less accurate as the week goes on.
✅ YES! If you have your reading history turned on it should move over to the new system (You will need to wait to log into your account until the new system is up and running on 6/3.)

EDIT: Due to the weather forecast the 2026 Quarry Celebration Day will be held Sunday, May 31, from 10am to 4pm.

This year's event will feature music, food trucks, arts and crafts, and more than 80 vendors. This event, sponsored by The Brownstone Quorum and Portland Parks and Recreation, helps the Brownstone Quorum to preserve and protect the National Historic Landmark Portland Brownstone Quarries and Riverfront Park.

We're migrating to our new and improved catalog and app this month! The last time Portland Public Library upgraded these systems was more than 10 years ago, so we are due for a makeover! 💅

From May 26 - June 3:

UPCOMING CLOSURES! Please note that we will be closed on Saturday, May 23 and Monday, May 25 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. We will also be closed on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30 as we train staff on our new circulation system. We appreciate your patience as we learn this new system!

Portland Public Library is migrating to our new and improved catalog and app later this month!

Right now everything is stuck at their home libraries until after the new system is up and running in early June! You can still pick up items in person at the library that owns them, but no items are going to travel here to Portland Library.
