Large volumes of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) have always been a pipe dream. Despite the NW Natural Gas target of 4% RNG in Oregon, it barely procures 1%. Now, it's co-owned plant in Nebraska is closing and the company wants Oregon ratepayers to foot the bill, when we've never used any. RNG from cow/chicken manure leaks just like any other methane causing 86 times more global heating in the first 20 years than carbon dioxide. Time to switch to heat pump and better yet, have NW Natural invest in ground-sourced heat pumps or thermal Power Plants, keeping pipefitters employed.

NW Natural customers may be on the hook for millions of dollars after a beef processing plant that produced some of the company’s renewable natural gas is set to close this month.

When can or will OR DEQ not allow any use of wastewater as irrigation on fields contributing to Groundwater contamination? Why are agribusiness and confined animal Feeding operations (CAFO) allowed to continue to pollute thru the Port of Morrow. now Data Centers are joining in.. They should be cleaning the water not polluting the groundwater with nitrate laden wastewater. The Port of Morrow has violated the land application limits in its wastewater permit over 2,000 times since 2015! Why are they allowed to continue this operation? They obviously make a very good profit to tolerate the paltry fines.

It's time to step up opposition to the administration, whether pressure against willful blocking of needed and already authorized funding for key energy infrastructure (only in blue states as this article explains) or National Guard to Portland against court order or tearing down our administrative infrastructure like the US Forest Service.
