Be safe during hot weather. Check on older neighbors and relatives. Encourage them to stay cool and drink lots of water. Go to an air-conditioned place like a library, mall, museum, or movie theater.

Cuide su salud cuando hace mucho calor. Vea cómo están los vecinos y parientes de más edad. Anímelos a mantenerse frescos y tomar mucha agua.

Love exploring the outdoors in the Portland area?

Multnomah County, Oregon has reported higher-than-normal tick activity, including but not limited to Powell Butte Nature Park. While health experts say the risk of tick-borne disease in Multnomah County remains very low, take a few simple precautions.

If you’re visiting any outdoor areas where insects thrive, we recommend that you:

- Wear long sleeves and pants
- Tuck pant legs into socks
- Wear closed-toe shoes
- Stay on designated trails
- Avoid tall grass and brush
- Use an EPA-registered repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus

After your visit, check yourself, children, pets, and gear for ticks. Pay close attention to the scalp, behind the ears, under the arms, behind the knees, and other warm areas of the body.

If you find an attached tick, remove it promptly with fine-tipped tweezers. Clean the bite area, then monitor for symptoms such as a rash, fever, headache, body aches, or fatigue. Contact your healthcare provider if symptoms develop.

Powell Butte Nature Park - and all city parks and natural areas - remain open for visitors to enjoy.

The Portland Insights Survey gives community members the opportunity to share their experiences, concerns, and priorities for the future of our city. In partnership with PSU, survey invitations will be mailed to 16,000 Portland households and will remain open through early August.

The survey helps City leaders better understand Portlanders’ perceptions of City services, community well-being, and the issues that matter most. Results will help guide future policy discussions, budget priorities, and community engagement efforts across Portland.

Findings from the survey will be available this coming winter in early 2027 and will help shape how the City serves Portland’s diverse communities for years to come.
