This conversation will introduce WFO’s Abundance for All Framework, which emerged directly from the collective dreams shared by our community. We believe policy is simply the structure we build around those dreams, and this meeting is an opportunity to explore how those dreams can become actionable policy priorities.

We are honored to be joined by two incredible leaders who will help ground the conversation in real policy pathways:

• Representative Tawna Sanchez, Oregon State Representative
• Councilor Angelita Morillo, Portland City Councilor

Together we will explore how community vision can shape the future of policy in Oregon and how leaders like you can help move this work forward.

I hope you can join us for this important conversation. Share and invite your friends.

Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Women's Foundation of Oregon Policy Committee Meeting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.

Join us on Saturday! We are eager to hear from you.

The Emerge Oregon Signature Program applications are open right now. The applications for this cohort-based candidate training program will close on Friday, November 14th. The training occurs over several months with both in-person and online sessions. What is a part of the success of Emerge is the network of women and the cohort concept. And we need more women to run - now more than ever.

Here's what one of our recent alum shared about their experience in the Emerge Oregon Signature Program: “The cohort concept is the BEDROCK of the program. We draw the strength and the inspiration from every single person in there. Nothing compares to the power and support of a group of women. I have the most awesome husband - he’s so supportive - but I come home - and I am FILLED with amazing goodness and I can’t live without the power of women. Nobody gives you that same energy, support, than a group of amazing women. IT IS SACRED.”

We have a few upcoming sessions for folks thinking about our program and how to best prepare themselves. We call them a Virtual Step Forward. They take place on zoom and folks are not required to attend one in order to apply or to be considered. It's only offered as it may be helpful in thinking things through and preparing and seeing yourself as a future candidate.

The session dates/times are:

• Wednesday, 10/29, 6-7:30pm
• Sunday, 11/2, 7-8:45pm. (LGBTQ-focused)
• Sunday, 11/9, 7-8:45pm (BIPOC-focused)

If folks are interested in attending a session, they can follow the RSVP link. Feel free to share it with others! We'll send the zoom link closer to the date.

If you are interested in our Signature program, this is a great introductory info session. You don't need to attend a session to apply for the Emerge Oregon Signature Program but it can be helpful to get a sense of what you are embarking on! There’s a lot of concern right now about SNAP benefits. On October 20, Governor Kotek officially shared that if the federal government shutdown continues beyond October 31, the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) may have to delay November SNAP benefits.

This is something we’ve never seen before. ODHS will share updates on their website at www.oregon.gov/odhs If you get SNAP, the best way to stay updated is through a ONE Online account or the Oregon ONE Mobile app.

In the meantime:

💳 Check your EBT balance — unused benefits will stay available after Nov. 1, 2025.
✍️ Write to our office so we can connect you with resources.
🥫 Know where to find emergency food if you need it.
📝 Keep your SNAP info current.

We know this is stressful, but we will continue to update you and be a resource.

ODHS provides services to over 1 million people across Oregon, including food and cash benefits, disability services, and support for children, families and older adults

Today is Indigenous Peoples Day and Governor Kotek has issued a proclamation which highlights the following:

• The historical and present-day contributions of Indigenous Peoples to Oregon's character and development
• The pre-existing and continued sovereignty of federally recognized Tribes
• Indigenous contributions to arts, education, health, economic development, environmental stewardship, and civic community
• The importance of traditional ecological knowledge and partnerships
• Our collective commitment to celebrating the enduring traditions, languages, governments, and histories of Indigenous People

It is important to remember and recognize the richness of Tribal peoples not only in our state but across the country, especially given this particular moment in time.

Representative Sanchez reflects on the loss today of Representative Hoa Nguyen.

Representative Hoa Nguyen was a relentless advocate for education; she literally sat to my left on the House floor and continually pushed for opportunities and resources for youth.

I had to tell her no a lot of the time when it came to budget asks, but she never gave up. If I had a question about an education-related issue she was there to tell me the reality of the situation. The seat on my left will be hard to fill.
