đź’§Happy Clean Water Week!!

We chatted with Senior Water Resources Engineer, Justin Pellerin, from City of Portland Public Works about the Sagamore Village rain gardens and how they help improve the water quality of Capisic Brook.

The rain garden helps to filter stormwater runoff through soil filtration while the plantings soak up excess nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous. Once the stormwater runoff is treated, it drains back into the storm drain system in the street, ultimately, discharging into Capisic Brook. This is part of the Sagamore Village Green Infrastructure Project to install 32 bioretention cells or rain gardens within existing esplanades in Sagamore Village.

Join us for Coffee & Climate this Friday, June 12 from 9–10 AM on Creative Climate Communications!

We're excited to welcome Max Boykoff, Professor of Environmental Studies and Executive Director of the Buckley Center for Sustainability Education at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Max will share insights and ideas drawing on several decades of experience implementing innovative approaches to more effectively communicate about climate change. Max’s work demonstrates that rather than simply providing more scientific facts, there is a need for a broader array of strategies that connect with people’s emotions and lived experience. In this talk, Max will discuss how comedy, art, storytelling, and performance can make climate change tangible and relatable – and be a powerful catalyst for engaging people in climate action!

Grab your morning coffee and join us virtually for this engaging discussion!

Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and helped make Portland shine at the Great Portland Pick Up!!

What an incredible day with over 500 volunteers across 18 cleanup sites in Portland. We managed to collect hundreds of bags of trash from our public spaces and parks.

We couldn’t have done it without the support of the neighborhood organizations, volunteer organizers, local businesses that generously donated food, coffee, and raffle prizes, and of course, our Public Works crew.

What a great day of connecting with neighbors, taking action, and caring for the places we all share.

See you all again next year!!

Special thanks to:

What if the best thing you could do for your garden this spring… is a little less?

Join our Coffee & Climate webinar this Friday at 9am for a conversation with ecologically-based landscape designer Kelly Corbin on how “messy” gardens can actually support pollinators, birds, and climate resilience. From leaving leaf litter to planting native species, learn how small shifts in how we garden can make a big ecological impact.

Whether you’ve got a backyard, a tiny yard, or just a sidewalk strip, this talk will give you practical tips to create a vibrant, resilient habitat right at home.

Let’s rethink “tidy” and grow a little wilder this season.
