Please welcome Amy Malagamba, Gabriela Mann, and Youtheary Sim to our board of directors!

All three bring a deep commitment to building equitable and accessible communities.

Amy, Vice President of Corporate Marketing at The Standard, has previously served on the board of Meals on Wheels People and has demonstrated wide-ranging leadership in communications.

Gabriela, in her role as a bilingual real estate advisor, has worked relentlessly to expand homeownership access. In 2026, she was appointed by Governor Tina Kotek to the Racial Justice Council's Housing and Homelessness Committee.

Youtheary, owner of Sweet T Bakery, is an advocate and entrepreneur who currently serves on the board for Reed’s Crossing, one of Oregon's largest mixed-use master-planned communities.

Meet Ken, gardener extraordinaire and Habitat homeowner of two years and counting. Over the last several months, he has built a garden full of life and color. It’s a big part of what makes him feel rooted at home, he says.

Ken and his wife, Donna, dreamed of homeownership for years. But after decades of supporting family, budgets stretching thin, and an injury that prevented Ken from working, it simply seemed impossible.

𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 – Design and implement culturally responsive outreach that expands access to Habitat's homeownership program for Black Portlanders. You'll build trusted partnerships with community members and organizations, and work to reduce systemic barriers to participation.

𝗧𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 – Lead all aspects of daily store operations — including staffing, merchandising, safety, and customer experience — while training and developing a strong store team.

Every role helps more people in the Portland region open the door to an affordable place to call home.

"Since I was a small child, I've secretly wanted to put on a hard hat and Habitat T-shirt and physically build something with a team of people… now's my chance."

A member of Westminster Presbyterian PDX recently shared these words to encourage others to get involved with Pope Leo Village.

"It gives us an opportunity to live outside ourselves a little more and lean into our desires to do more and love more," she said.

That's exactly what Pope Leo Village is creating in 21 cities across the country. Here in Portland, the campaign supports our Twenty Fifth Terrace community.

Volunteers from Westminster helped out there by cleaning windows and tubs, replacing door hardware, and air sealing exterior doors. Members have also created handmade welcome cards and quilts for future homeowners.

For Sarah, volunteering has become a way to reconnect with herself while contributing to Habitat’s larger mission.

“That’s what keeps me coming back… knowing what we’re doing on a bigger level is contributing to building homes and being able to provide opportunity for people in our communities who might not otherwise be able to buy a house.”

What began as a small step toward routine has grown into community, confidence, and even a garden fence she built with her own two hands.

“This is a project that’s near and dear to our hearts,” says Tyler Michel, lead pastor at Greater Portland Bible Church (GPBC).

“We’re excited as a church to be good neighbors, invest in the community, and see these homes go up.”

We’re grateful to the GPBC team for recently joining us at Gooseberry Trails. It’s our largest Habitat community to date, with 52 affordable homes taking shape on the church’s former parking lot.

Their support is especially meaningful as this once-familiar space is transformed into a place where up to 230 people will have the opportunity to build stability and put down roots.

Thank you, GPBC, for being such an important partner in bringing Gooseberry Trails to life. We’re excited for what we’re building together!
