"On location with Universal near Meacham, Or. 1924." The two Hoot Gibson westerns shot in Umatilla County that summer were "Saddle Hawk" and "Let 'er Buck." From left: Tommie Grimes (Round Up steer roping champion in 1918, 1921 and 1923), G. Raymond "Bill" Nye and Charles French. All three actors appeared in both films, so it is unknown which of the two is represented here. I am leaning towards "Saddle Hawk" since most of that film is known to have been shot in the Blue Mountains. Previously unknown photo taken by Vayne "Cap" Gurdane of Pendleton, whose father Tom Gurdane was in charge of set security.
