Chxi San is a Chinook Wawa word meaning “new day.” Chxi San is a community-oriented playgroup for parents and their children, pre-birth through age five, that creates a nurturing circle of care through culturally focused, child-centered, and developmentally appropriate play in a structured environment.

We welcome and encourage community, elders and kin to join parents and their children in the playgroup. We also provide healthy, nutritious and culturally appropriate snacks during playgroup.

To qualify, you must be pregnant and/or parenting a child, newborn–pre-school age.

Hello Students and Families,
Ready to wrap up the school year with something actually fun? You’re invited to join us for a high-energy End-of-Year Field Trip that brings together art, games, food, and time with friends—the perfect way to celebrate everything you’ve accomplished this year!

We’ll kick things off with a visit to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, where students will explore powerful and creative works from around the world. This won’t be a quiet, boring museum trip—students will have space to share their thoughts, ask questions, and connect what they see to their own lives and experiences. An interactive art workshop is included, along with a relaxed lunch on the campus grounds.

Then, we’ll switch things up and head to Round1 Bowling & Arcade for a full-on celebration! Students can look forward to unlimited arcade gameplay, bowling with friends, karaoke, ping-pong, and billiards. A delicious spread of pizza, wings, takoyaki, gyoza, and a chance to win credits for the Victory Zone—test your claw machine skills and grab your favorite anime merch!

There’s something for everyone, and plenty of ways to celebrate together. Your head will be spinning with all the options!

This trip is all about recognizing your effort, growth, and achievements this year—so let’s make sure you end it on a high note.

Who can attend?
• Students in grades 8–12 in Multnomah County
• Priority will be given to previous NAYA program participants

He:yung’ / Hello community,

Join us for the next Portland Youth and Elders Council on Saturday, May 16 from 1–3 PM at NAYA.

This month, PYEC will gather in collaboration with NAYA’s Health Equity team, who will share updates on their work with the community garden, including plans for new garden signage that reflects the Neerchokikoo site and incorporates Chinook Wawa language.

With so much blossoming around us, it is a beautiful time to be in community and conversation around first foods, Native language, land-based learning, wellness, and the ways our garden continues to care for and connect our people.

Health Equity will also share some of their findings on first foods and the connection to our overall wellness.

This will be a potluck gathering, so community members are welcome to bring a dish, snack, or drink to share if they are able.

Bring your voice. Bring your relatives. Come be in community with us.
