Jesse Lee Calhoun is now indicted for a fifth murder of a woman in the Portland area. He's charged with Murder in the Second Degree for killing Ashley Real on March 27, 2023. A new Oregon law lowering the bar for involuntary mental health commitment is gaining traction in Multnomah County. 93% of contested cases are ordered into treatment now- that's compared to 76% last year. Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Nikkie Frampton, a former emergency room nurse, handles these cases. She says most families are relieved at the outcome.

The woman who lit the fire that destroyed Elephants Deli in Portland is sentenced to 180 days jail. She said she was homeless, freezing cold and hungry at the time. Because it was accidental, she lit the fire to see better as she looked for food, its not felony arson. Our DDA on the case, Jay Winkler and DA Nathan Vasquez offer reactions. Your thoughts?

May 7, 2026 Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Eric Palmer talked about the upward sentence given to 43-year-old Noureddine Dib. Dib was convicted of attempted murder. He shot another dad as they both arrived at a Portland area school parking lot to pick up their kids. Palmer asked for a longer than normal sentence - 12 years prison- and Judge Andrew Lavin agreed. People are being held accountable in Multnomah County.

Portland Police Bureau reported it rescued six teens from s*x traffickers on SE 82nd over the last three weeks. Its a stunning number. The teens were 17 years old and younger. Here, our Deputy District Attorney Aileen Santoyo - who prosecutes buyers and traffickers-promises they will be prosecuted.
