This Sunday!! Rain or shine at Company 1 firehouse! We will be in the bays selling some freshly baked goodies and hosting a raffle!! Make sure to stop by before the parade and grab some treats to munch during the parade or after for your parties!!

Yesterday the explorers learned what true brother/sisterhood is. 343 firefighters, 110 flights of stairs, and 2200 steps. None of these kids were born when 9/11 happened, but they all wanted to participate and be apart of this tradition. Every year there are firefighters from all over who climb stairs either in their homes, stations, schools, gyms, etc to honor the lost souls of that day. Not once did these kids stop, stray from the group, or try to be better than one another. They stayed together as a group/family and climbed for those who can’t. Those who were lost that day paved the road for these kids today and inspired them to do good and make a difference. We will never forget this day and continue to honor those who are no longer with us, not just the firefighters but all the people that were lost that day.

Explorer summer 2025!! It’s been a very busy year for the post!! Many new members and many new opportunities. This summer the explorers got to experience many different challenges and how to over come them. From brush fires, to stand pipe operations, mock hazmat and EMS drills, extinguishers, another member going to the academy, and so much more. They had so much fun this summer while they were learning and preparing for their futures. This fall they will be going back to some basics to help the newer members learn. So stay tuned to see more!

Also over the next couple months we will be having a couple of our members phasing out and into the department membership. If you or anyone you know is interested in joining please reach out we would love some new faces and minds to meld!

Another year another cadet going off to the academy. This year Thomas Quinn went and completed the Connecticut Fire Academy ITTFS ASAC program!! In this program this year Thomas learned more rope work, which in turn helped in repelling a basket down from the 4th floor, vehicle extrication along with vehicle stabilization and hose work. We are very proud of our cadet Thomas. Congratulations Thomas a job well done!

Last night the Portland Fire explorers were invited to East Hampton, CT Volunteer Fire Dept, with their juniors, to participate in the Connecticut Fire Academy confidence maze!! This maze helps firefighters gain confidence in tight situations and how to overcome them. Thank you East Hampton CT Volunteer Fire Department for the invite we really had fun and learned a lot!!

What a day yesterday! Thank you to everyone who came out (even in the rain in the AM) and supported the explorers! We had a great turnout and made some new friends!! Special thank you to our big donators this year for both the bake sale and raffle: Baked By Michele CT, Fire Department Chronicles, Fire Department Coffee U.S, lawn and landscape, Sweet Harmony Cafe & Bakery, Savvy Swap Consignment, Texas Roadhouse and many many more. We appreciate everyone who has helped us make this event happen and to the ones who continue to come back. Here’s to next year!!
