The Oregonian’s reporting on lower voter turnout in Portland due to ranked-choice voting missed the mark and and reinforced inaccurate assumptions about East Portland voters.

In truth, the 2024 election marks a historic win for inclusive democracy. For the first time in 100+ years, every neighborhood in Portland will have a seat at the table. Our City Council will be the most diverse in history—across age, race, gender, income, and geography.

Read our op-ed, coauthored with the Latino Network Action Fund and Next Up Action Fund, where we highlight the unprecedented victories from this election — a direct result of the charter reforms voters overwhelmingly approved two years ago.🎉

Portland's first election under ranked-choice voting will send the most diverse City Council in history to City Hall, the authors, Marcus Mundy, Elona Wilson and Tony DeFalco write, and marked a success not just in outcomes, but in process.
