Another test? Really? YES, and this one is worth celebrating!

This week, Discovery made history as our 8th graders became the first students in school history to take the PSAT 8/9!

This exciting first opens new doors for our students, aligns Discovery with other local middle schools, and provides valuable data to strengthen our instruction and support student growth. It also gives our students an early look at college and career readiness while preparing them for the SAT in high school.

We are SUPER PROUD of our 8th graders for embracing this new challenge with effort, determination, and a growth mindset!

Another first. More opportunities. More ways to Discover the Best! Go Hawks!

p.s. No pictures taken during testing as cell phones and photography not allowed in the room.

🐢🌿 **Exploring Careers in Conservation!** 🌿🐢

Our Intro to Agriculture students had a special guest today! We welcomed Dr. Callie Klatt Golba, Curator of Turtle Conservation Research at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum! 🐢🔬

Dr. Callie shared her research on the fascinating Blanding’s turtle, her journey into the field, and the importance of habitat restoration in protecting turtles and countless other organisms. 🌎💚

Thank you, Dr. Callie, for giving our students a glimpse into the world of wildlife conservation and inspiring them as they explore the many career paths in agriculture!

🍂 Once a Hawk, always a Hawk! 🦅❤️

Our DCS alumni spent part of their fall break giving back to the Discovery community! They joined our 4th graders on today’s hike, helping students identify leaves and learn more about the nature around them. 🌳🍁

We love seeing our Hawks return to share their time, knowledge, and love of learning with the next generation! ❤️🤍

Officer Tawni Komisarcik and Superintendent Kevin Zeck recently completed training with the Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy. This is another step in our ongoing and increased focus on strengthening Discovery's safety practices. ISSSA provides ongoing, certified training and information on national and state best practices, high-quality resources for school safety, security, intervention/prevention, and emergency preparedness planning. We appreciate the trust that our families place in our school each and every day and welcome their partnership in making the best community for our learners.

What started as an unexpected playground visitor quickly turned into an impromptu snake lesson! Our students got a close-up look at one of nature’s coolest creatures while learning a little more about the wildlife around us from Ms. Golba, our School Naturalist.

Only at Discovery, where even a snake sighting can become a learning experience! 🌿🐍

🌲📚 **From the forest to paper!** 🌳

Our Intro to Agriculture students spent the week exploring the world of **forestry**—learning about careers in the field and discovering the many products we use every day that come from forests.

They wrapped up the week with a hands-on experience: **making their own paper!** 📝🌿

Learning about agriculture is about more than reading and talking—it’s about getting hands-on and discovering how the world around us works! 💚

🌱🔍 Little Scientists, Big Discoveries!🔍🌱

Our 2nd graders got to dig a little deeper into the world of plants today thanks to the Porter County Soil and Water Conservation District!

Students learned about plants and then put their curiosity to work—each student received their **own magnifying glass** to explore plants up close and discover details they might not see with the naked eye. 🌿👀

There’s nothing quite like hands-on, place-based learning to turn a lesson into an adventure! 💚🌎

Many thanks to the Dunes Learning Center for partnering with us on these learning experiences!
