The KRESA Foundation was originally formed as the Youth Opportunities Unlimited Foundation. In 1991 the name was changed to the Kalamazoo Valley Intermediate School District Foundation and in 1997 changed its name to the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency Foundation (KRESA Foundation). The primary activities of the KRESA Foundation over the past several years have been in the granting o

f staff mini-grants for specialized training and/or supplemental program/student projects and the granting of scholarships to students. In the 2015-2016 school year the Foundation awarded over $8,000 in staff mini-grants and awarded over $41,000 in student scholarships. The foundation also supported three projects at $500 each; special education student summer camps, KRESA wellness committee activities, and support for the administrative summer training academy. In May of 2016 the first awards for the Targeted Assistance Grant, a program to support future teachers obtain their degrees, were made to four applicants with an initial distribution of $10,000.

Special Education Day marks the anniversary of our nation’s first federal special education law which was signed by President Gerald Ford on December 2, 1975. This law is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
