I was proud to be at the White House today as President Trump signed the HALT Fentanyl Act into law. This bill gives law enforcement the tools they’ve been asking for to crack down on fentanyl traffickers. It makes the emergency scheduling of fentanyl-related substances permanent, closing loopholes and helping stop these deadly drugs before they hit our streets. President Trump made fighting the opioid crisis a top priority during his first term. Now that fight continues with this bill. Fentanyl has taken too many lives in Indiana and across the country. Parents should never have to face the pain of losing their children to this deadly drug. I’m grateful for the moms and dads I’ve met who have turned their grief into action. Their tireless efforts helped get this bill signed into law. There’s more work to do, but this is a big step and I’m grateful for the President’s leadership in this fight.
