⚠️ June is the formal warning period.

From June 1–30, the City will continue its outreach efforts and begin a formal warning period for trucks that have not shifted to designated alternate routes. Coordination with transportation partners will also continue to improve route awareness and directional signage leading into downtown.

As we move into the next phase of the Coastal Highway revitalization effort, please review posted signage and stay informed.

This is a major step in redirecting through-truck traffic away from the city center and converting the corridor from a truck-dominated thoroughfare into a pedestrian-focused main street. Only local deliveries to retail and commercial businesses are allowed via Crossgate Rd.

Together, we’re creating a safer, more connected downtown. Learn more at portwentworthga.gov

🚙 Safer streets support a stronger downtown.

The ban of semi-truck traffic from the downtown corridor of Coastal Highway will be fully enforced beginning July 1, 2026, with the public information campaign running through May and June as truck drivers adapt to taking designated alternate routes.

Port Wentworth's Coastal Highway campaign is focused on improving public safety, reducing heavy truck congestion, and transforming downtown into a more walkable, business-friendly destination for residents and visitors.

Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition while positioning Port Wentworth for long-term economic growth and a more vibrant downtown.
