On Wednesday the ReWild interns helped us update the native garden. We moved around some existing plants, weeded and added some new perennials for late season color. It looks great!!

Week 3 with interns from the ReWild Long Island Summer Program to Combat Hunger and Climate Change. Interns pulled weeds, cut down some Mulberry trees, cleared spaces for the native plants, and did garbage cleanup. Thanks to Joe from Spadefoot and Kate Walz | KW Gardens & Flowers for leading their efforts!

Great coverage of last month’s Sustainable Garden Tour—the 5th annual tour of local, native gardens organized by the Port Washington Water District and Rewild Long Island. We’re proud that Baxter’s Pond was one of the stops on the tour, and this year’s tour attracted 150 participants!

As the article points out, the Sustainable Garden Tour “is becoming more than a showcase of attractive gardens — it is helping cultivate a community-wide movement toward protecting Long Island’s sole-source aquifer and creating healthier local ecosystems.”

Baxter’s Pond is buzzing with activity! Little ducklings, hundreds of dragonflies, big fish, and lots of lush plantings!
If you haven’t been in a while, it’s time to visit and admire the natural beauty of this park!

ReWild Long Island’s Summer Program to Combat Hunger & Climate Change kicked off the 2026 season on Saturday morning with an Opening Ceremony at the rewilded and beautiful Seraphim Farm in East Norwich. The Baxter’s Pond Foundation is proud to be among an impressive group of partner organizations participating in this program, and we can’t wait to welcome this year’s cohort of interns! They will join us once a week for native planting, invasive removal, and beautification projects.
