Last year, the Port Washington Fire Department responded to more than 1,600 medical emergencies in and around our community. That level of service would not be possible without our passionate, dedicated full-time and part-time EMTs and Paramedics who stand ready to help at a moment’s notice, day or night.

EMS Week is an opportunity to recognize the people behind the patch who make a difference in the lives of others every single day. This year’s EMS Week theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” reflects what EMS is truly about. Whether it’s providing lifesaving care, helping someone through one of the worst days of their life, or simply offering comfort and reassurance when it’s needed most, our EMS providers are there every step of the way. The theme also serves as a reminder that improving outcomes takes all of us, through strong partnerships with our hospital systems, continued investment in training and equipment, and supporting the health and wellness of the EMS providers who care for our community.

To the EMTs and Paramedics of the Port Washington Fire Department, thank you for everything you do each and every shift.

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. If you’ve ever needed the fire department, chances are you’ve spoken with a dispatcher at the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office. The Ozaukee County Communications Center handles more than 100,000 calls for service each year. Telecommunicators are a critical link for people in need of help and for responders in the field. Please take some time this week to thank a dispatcher, just don’t call 911 to do it...
