Experience something different in beautiful, historic Port Washington!
Hi friends! We have some exciting news to share with you out of Port Washington! Port Washington Historical Society has developed a shipwreck walking tour available via an app on your phone!
Thanks to the Port Washington Historical Society’s Barb Joosse, the tour takes you on a tour through time as you walk along Port Washington’s beautiful marina!
The tour starts off in front of the Port Washington Historical Society’s 1860 Light Station. Heading down the bluff, you’ll then wind your way around the city’s scenic harbor, through Fishermen’s Park, and finally, across a bridge to Coal Dock Park. As you walk, you’ll be engaged in stories about the many different characters who built Wisconsin between 1830 and 1930, and worked along Lake Michigan.
During this 45-minute walking tour, you’ll hear the dramatic retelling of six shipwrecks that took place just off Port Washington’s shores, learning about Lake Michigan’s perilous past and history of maritime travel.
The Port Washington Historical Society partnered with the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast NMS to offer free downloads of this tour from the VoiceMap app or webpage.
