Thanks to a grant from the Green Bay Packers Foundation Packers Outreach, the Planning and Parks Department was able to continue invasive species management and expand the trail system in Hawthorne Hills County Park this year with help from two WisCorps and one AmeriCorps NCCC conservation corps teams, improving the local ecology and recreational opportunities in the Park! This project’s impacts have included ~2 acres of invasive species removal and two new trails with ~1,050 linear feet along Hawthorne Hills Pond and between future campsites. We want to give a huge thank you to the Packers Foundation for their generous support of our project and for believing in our mission!

Portions of the Hawthorne Hills County Park road will be will be closed the week of September 21, 2026 for paving. Walking trails and access to the Historic Pioneer Village, Hawthorne Hills Multipurpose Building, HH Peters Youth Camp and Sugar Maple Nature School remains open.

Covered Bridge County Park in Cedarburg now has a canoe/kayak launch, thanks to this Eagle Scout!

Drew Sargent completed his Eagle Scout project by building a new gravel kayak launch at Covered Bridge Park in Cedarburg.

A couple in an approximately 1930 photograph with the Cedarburg Covered Bridge. You can see a couple of children catching minnows or tadpoles or something underneath the bridge. Originally, it spanned Cedar Creek without the middle support underneath it. After decades, the 100 foot long wooden bridge had begun to sag. This year, we celebrate the 150th birthday of Wisconsin's last remaining historic covered bridge.
