Our first 2026 endorsements! Last night, May 29, our members carefully considered the following.
We endorsed the SUPPORT position for Jefferson County Prop 1, which will be on the AUGUST 4 BALLOT. This measure is a six-year, 21-cent levy lid lift that will fund parks and recreation, including 6 community centers, 4-H and many other youth programs, the fairgrounds, and 23 parks.
We endorsed five Democrats running for county office. They are Andy Pernsteiner (sheriff), Chuck Garland (assessor), Amanda Hamilton (court clerk), James Kennedy (prosecutor), and Stacie Prada (treasurer).
We endorsed Emily Randall for U. S. House of Representatives.
We endorsed Adam Bernbaum for state House of Representatives, Position 1.
We endorsed two candidates for state Supreme Court:
Position 1: Justice Colleen Melody
Position 7: Justice Debra Stephens
We endorsed the OPPOSE position on two Brian Heywood initiatives that will be on the November ballot.
We OPPOSE IL26-638, which would require girls to undergo medical exams to determine their "biological s*x" before participating in school sports.
We OPPOSE IL 26-001, the so-called Parents' Bill of Rights, which would take away protections from bullying in schools and add duplicate, conflicting, impractical, and other provisions that would undermine the work of professional educators and endanger children.
At a future Democratic party meeting, voters can get to know the three Democrats running for County Commissioner and the four Democrats who running for Steve Tharinger's open seat. In attendance last night were Jean Ball and Anji Scalf (BoCC candidates) and Mark Hodgson (legislative candidate -- pictured).
