Port Sanilac Lighthouse

Port Sanilac Lighthouse Dedicated to preservation of Port Sanilac Michigan Lighthouse and keeping its history alive. The focal plane of the light is at a height of 69 feet.

Congress appropriated $20,000 for construction of a new coastal lighthouse to be established between Fort Gratiot and Harbor Beach on Lake Huron in 1885, the site was selected and purchased for construction to begin in the village of Port Sanilac, MI. Lit for the first time on October 20, 1886, the Port Sanilac Lighthouse still houses its original 4th Order Fresnel Lens and is an active aid to nav

igation. The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (tower only at this time). The historic dwelling, tower, oil house, privy and well are now being maintained to preserve them for future generations by the Shook family.

For over a century, our lighthouses have welcomed ships and visitors to our shoreline. Today one is crumbling and needs our help, or it will get removed permanently. ⚓️🌊

This Giving Tuesday we ask our community to help protect these historic beacons as restoration work continues on the Breakwater Lighthouse. Major donor recognitions are available, but any amount helps.

Our vision is shaped by the past and focused on the future: 👉 Preserve the Breakwater and South Pierhead Lighthouses for generations. 👉 Restore interior and exterior elements currently being rebuilt off site. 👉 Expand educational experiences and community programs for all ages.

This year, your support goes directly toward the next phase of restoration of the Breakwater Lighthouse as state funds reach fulfillment. Every gift helps keep progress moving even through the winter months.

Visit our website or give through the Community Foundation using "The Lighthouse Fund" at bit.ly/saveourlight

Today, please: ✅ Give if you are able. ✅ Share this post to help spread the word.
✅ Tag someone who loves Muskegon as much as they love our Lighthouses

Thank you for standing with us as we protect, restore, and celebrate the Muskegon Lighthouses.
