Archie, Peter, and Bailey delighted in the Springtime Dog Lovers Hike on May 2, 2026, walking 2.6 miles on the Yellow Trail loop, enjoying water breaks, and witnessing the playful Ibis and Herons. We will be taking a “paws” until September due to the hot weather. Remember to never leave your dog in the car, even with windows cracked! When walking, check the asphalt with the back of your hand. If it burns your hand, it is too hot for our fur buddies paws.

Please note our next scheduled hike will take place on May 2nd at 8:00 am, an earlier start time due to the warmer weather. We will be taking a summer hiatus and resuming our hikes in the fall.

St. Patrick's Day Dog Lovers Hike - Saturday, March 14, 2026. Although rain had been forecasted, the morning proved perfect for the group's 2-mile hike along the Yellow Trail. Henry, Theo, Cinnamon, Penny, Elke, Emery, Peter, and Bailey had a wonderful time. Penny entertained us with her beagle baying. All are welcome to join our upcoming events.

Calling all gopher tortoise lovers, eco champions, and those who are looking to serve their local natural communities:

Savannas Preserve State Park would like to invite you to "Shell"ebrate Gopher Tortoise Day by helping park volunteers and staff in removing invasive plants from our Hawks Bluff location.

Hawks Bluff is home to numerous gopher tortoises that love the open, sandy hills to dig their burrows and plentiful cocoplum & gopher apple plants that provide delicious fruits to munch on. However, this gopher tortoise sanctuary is being encroached upon by pesky, non-native plants that if left unchecked- can fill in the preferred open sands and crowd out the gopher tortoise's favorite foods.

Join Savannas Preserve in protecting this keystone species Friday April 10th from 9am-noon at our Hawks Bluff Trail.
