For those who have a tankless gas water heater. If your hot water stops working in this freezing temps the first thing to check is the water line going in the bottom of the water heater. Some/most do have protection on the inside to prevent the water from freezing but your water line going into the bottom can freeze and cause you to not get any water from the hot side of your faucet. Many people resorted to using a hair dryer on the water line for a few minutes which thawed it enough to get their hot water going again. The permanent fix for this is to fully insulate all exposed water lines but if you want to quickly get your hot water flowing again, the hair dryer method worked for many people.

St Joe Natural Gas Company will not be shutting off the gas before or after the hurricane. There has been a rumor or 2 floating around about this and it is false. If you have a natural gas generator it should work just fine should the power go out at your house. The decision to shut down the entire system after hurricane Michael was made for reasons that can’t be explained on a Facebook post. The main point is that will not happen again. The gas will remain on. We will have technicians in town and ready to respond to any calls Friday morning. Our office will be open Friday morning as soon as it is possible to open.

As mentioned in our previous posts recently, on Tuesday morning a contractor, digging with a large tractor, hit an 8" High Pressure Gas Main that was out in the middle of nowhere on Hwy 386. Thankfully no one was hurt and we were able to repair everything quickly and safely. Also, thanks to the Gulf County Sheriff's Department for their assistance Tuesday morning while the site was being made safe.

Everyone is required to call 811 before digging anywhere. This means even on private property. It is a free service to the person making the call and all utilities water, power, gas, phone and cable will all come out and locate and mark their lines for the area you want to dig. We want to use this instance to highlight the importance of using the 811 system even for a small job like putting up a mailbox or a realtor sign in your front yard. If you have any questions or concerns you can call our office and next week there will be an ad/article in the star that we run each year that has more information about natural gas, digging and the 811 system.

We have finished with repairs and have restored service to all customers that were home when we came by. If we missed you or if you live in white city area and you find that your gas is not working please call the office 850-229-8216 and we will come out and get you back on.

We have an outage in the white city area tonight. Tuesday morning one of our main pipelines was damaged in the Overstreet area causing us to reroute gas in several places. Because of this we slowly lost pressure on the mainlines in white city. The final repairs are being completed overnight tonight and we will be going to every customer in white city starting at 8:00am tomorrow morning (Thursday)to restore service. If you live in white city and have gas service we will be coming by tomorrow morning and if no one is home we will leave a door card for you to call when you get home. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we safely restore gas service to every customer affected from this. This afternoon we decided to close our office lobby until further notice. We have a drive through drop box on the right side of our building for any payments. Payments can also be made on our website or over the phone by calling the office. Our phones will be answered just like they always have during weekday business hours for any questions or concerns. We will plan to reopen our lobby to customers as soon as the state and local government feel that the current health concerns get back to normal. Please be safe and call if you have any questions. 850-229-8216

We want to update our customers and community of the status of our office. We are watching and waiting for more updates as they come in and for now our office remains open as of today. In the coming days we do expect to close our office to the public as other utility and government offices have already done and are in the process of doing right now. We will still have our full staff at work to respond to any gas related calls that may come up. We encourage customers to be patient with non critical work such as a pool heater or fireplace during this time. We will be focused on any leak calls or water heater issues as those are the most important that we will prioritize. If you have been recently sick or are still actively sick please do not call for us to perform any service work in your home, this does not include gas leaks as you should always call immediately if you smell gas. We need our employee family safe and well to maintain the gas system in our community. We encourage all customers to utilize our online payment option on our website instead of coming in to the office for a normal bill payment. Starting earlier today the fee associated with online payments has been removed so that only the actual bill will show up when paying online with a credit card. We have been working with the company that handles online transactions to remove it temporarily and were able to get it taken off for 60 days to help reduce the amount of people needing to get out in person to pay their bills. We are thankful that our customers will see a savings of that convenience fee over the next 2 months. We also will take credit card payments over the phone and we have our dropbox on the right side of our building that is setup for drive through and drop off for checks or money orders. Please follow all guidelines from the State and CDC and avoid non essential trips out. If we have to close our office we will put another notice out with details when the time comes. Our website is stjoegas.com and phone number is 850-229-8216 Be safe and God Bless.
