If you smell pleasantries or see a small amount of white smoke coming from the police department don't be alarmed, we are just enjoying our new green egg grill and smoker donated to us by the Caldwells from the Martha's Vineyard community.

The Caldwells like many of our residents have been long time supporters of our department and we appreciate each of you for it. Whether it be small words of thanks in passing, a waive as we patrol your neighborhood or items dropped off at our department, appreciation for our officers and the city's public safety doesn't go unnoticed.

Yesterday evening the Port Richey Police Department assisted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission (F.W.C) with a vessel crash near Durney Key.

Preliminary reports indicate a verbal disturbance occurred between two parties on separate boats. One vessel then swerved toward the other resulting in a collision which caused it to over turn and the occupants to be ejected.

Response from our marine unit, the Port Richey Fire Department and Pasco Fire Rescue resulted in immediate medical care with one patient being transported to a hospital as a truama alert.

We remind our boating community to operate in a safe and careful manner to avoid preventable crashes such as these and to dial 9-1-1 to report unsafe or dangerous boating situations or life threatening emergencies.

The Port Richey Police Department would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Labor Day weekend. To ensure the motoring public's safety, we will be focusing on the reduction of injury crashes and fatalities through a specialized impaired driver traffic enforcement initiative. Joining us this holiday weekend are members from the Pasco Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol.

A special thank you to Carrabbas of Port Richey, Smith Collision and All Hours Towing who catered meals for the law enforcement officers who participated in this multi agency effort.

Sergeant Jeffrey Cox recently completed the Florida Leadership Academy (Class 63) through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Criminal Justice Executive Training Institute.

This four week competitive training is taught exclusively to first line supervisors from across the State of Florida over a four month period.

The course focuses on leadership development through strengthened skills in communication, accountability, professionalism and ethical decision-making.

We extend our congratulations to Sgt. Jeffrey Cox for his completion of the course and Chief Ruggiero's commitment to professional training (both of whom are pictured below).

Our hearts are with the Dade City Police Department and the Pasco Sheriff's Office as they mourn the loss of members from their respective agencies. Regardless of the color of their uniform, sworn or civilian, we grieve the loss of a public servant. Each of whom dedicated their lives to bettering our communities and enriching the lives of those they served.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign runs August 19, 2026 though September 7,2026, leading into Labor Day weekend.

If you plan to drink, plan ahead. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare, or find another safe way home. Impaired driving is never worth the risk. Buzzed driving is drunk driving.

The Port Richey Police Department marine unit reminds our boating community to operate safely on the Pithlachascotee River and within the Gulf. We caution boaters to check weather conditions prior to launch and throughout their voyage as each day is not as picturesque as the photos shown.

Our department routinely patrols our waterways but also stands by ready to respond to watercraft emergencies and to aid our boating community with their safety concerns whether they're near shore or by our historic stilt houses.

The Port Richey Police Department is joining other law enforcement agencies across the Southeast United States with the same message in mind, reducing speed related crashes and fatalities on state highways through a week long public education and traffic enforcement initiative called Operation Southern Slow Down.

However, we have unfortunate news to bring to some of you - if you live in Brown Acres off of Ranch Road you may soon notice a lack of water. There is currently a water main break in this area, but you can rest assured that our utilities department is out there doing their best to get the issue resolved quickly and soundly. Thank you all for your patience and understanding until our experts can get this fixed!
