Delaware Burn Ban Reminder
As a reminder, the statewide burn ban will go into effect beginning May 1, 2026.
This annual restriction, issued by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, is in place to help protect air quality and reduce the risk of outdoor fires during the warmer months.
Residents are reminded that most open burning is prohibited during this period, with limited exceptions such as cooking fires and small recreational fires.
Please review the official news release from DNREC for complete details and guidance regarding permitted and prohibited activities.

(03/20/2026) On Friday Afternoon Stations 4/24 were dispatched for a Delta MVC with 2 subjects reported trapped. 29-6 was on the road and gave their location to NCC FireBoard and made the response. Battalion 24 arrived and confirmed two people trapped in separate cars. 29-6 arrived moments later and began extricating the higher priority patient. Once the patient was freed, they were then moved to DSP Trooper 4. 6s crew then assisted crews with moving the second patient to a stretcher and was given care until DSP Trooper 2 arrived. Crews then assisted with care of the lower priority patients. 29-6 remained on scene for approximately 1 hour before being cleared by command

On behalf of the Officers, Staff, and Members, the Port Penn Fire Company would like to congratulate Past Chief Frank Schoeffler on being named the Port Penn Fire Company’s first Chief Emeritus. Past Chief Schoeffler served in multiple leadership roles such as Rescue Captain, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Board Director, and served as the Fire Chief for a total of 22 years. Chief Schoeffler is currently a Career Captain at the GoodWill Fire Company as well as the County Swift Water Rescue Team Leader. The company thanks him for his dedication

At approximately 2:30 pm Tuesday (3/17) afternoon Station 29 was alerted for MRU (Marine Rescue Unit) 29 to assist Stations 4/24 with an investigation for a vehicle in the water in the area of Silver Run Rd . MRU 29 responded, Upon arrival 3 members of the crew donned water rescue suits and entered the water. Upon reaching the car, the crew found that no occupants were in the vehicle. 29s crew then exited the water and returned to quarters.

March 10th 2026, Sta. 29 was dispatched to assist Stations 4&24 on a MVC in the 400 block of Port Penn Rd, Soon after 29-6 went enroute Chief 24 advised 29-6 that there was one occupant trapped. Upon arrival 29s crew performed a “door pop” and removed the trapped driver. A-29 and the Fire Chief responded as well.

March 12th 2026, Stations 4&24 were dispatched to the intersection of Port Penn Rd & DuPont Pkwy for a MVC. Upon receiving new information the call was upgraded to a Delta level response which brought the response of Sta.29. 29-6,A-29, and the Fire Chief responded on dispatch. Chief 29 arrived to find 1 person trapped, 29-6s crew along with the crew of Quint 15 (Delaware City Fire Company)arrived and performed 2 sidewall removals and due to the amount of intrusion it was determined a roof removal was required as well. Chief 29 held the Odessa Cmd. A-29 transported the priority patient to Christiana ER

Both incidents are being investigated by the Delaware State Police
