South Kitsap Project Update: Nighttime Utility Work Along SE Lund Avenue

Residents and travelers along SE Lund Avenue should be aware of ongoing nighttime utility work associated with a private development project in the area. Crews are installing sewer utility lines along SE Lund Avenue and are expected to continue working between 3 p.m. and 12 a.m. for one to two more nights. Nearby residents may hear loud construction noise during work hours, including equipment operation, excavation activities, and backup alarms.

This work is being performed by a contractor on behalf of a private development and is not part of Kitsap County's SE Lund Avenue Corridor Improvement Project. However, because the work is occurring within the same project area, Kitsap County is sharing this information to help keep the community informed.

Motorists should expect intermittent traffic impacts and use caution when traveling through the work zone. For information about the County's SE Lund Avenue Corridor Improvement Project, visit kcowa.us/lund

Kitsap County Public Works crews are out this summer replacing recessed centerline and turn lane reflectors on roadways throughout Central Kitsap to help improve nighttime visibility and roadway safety. While this work is underway, drivers should expect brief delays of approximately 10–15 minutes. Crews will pull the reflector installation truck over when traffic begins to back up.

We’ve recently seen instances of drivers attempting to unsafely pass the reflector installation truck. The crew member installing the reflectors is working just inches from live traffic, and unsafe passing puts both workers and other motorists at serious risk.

These recessed reflectors provide an important safety benefit for nighttime travel by improving lane visibility in low-light and wet conditions. Because the reflectors are recessed into the roadway, snowplows are less likely to damage or rip them out during winter operations, helping them last longer and remain effective year-round.

Please slow down, be patient, and help keep our crews safe while this important roadway safety work is completed. To learn more about how Kitsap County Public Works maintains and preserves over 900 miles of roadway, visit kcowa.us/roadmaint

Upcoming WSDOT projects with road closures beginning in June. Be prepared for detours and increased traffic on alternate routes through the summer.

Are you sad because we're pausing our biggest construction projects in June during the soccer matches in Seattle? Oh boy, do we have a consolation prize for you!

Starting in June, we'll have not one but TWO highway closures in Kitsap County. And they start on the same day!!! We'll pause for the celebratory cheers.

The morning of June 13, crews are set to close SR 3 near Sunnyslope Road in the Gorst area around the clock for 16 days. That same evening, Sedgwick Road (SR 160) will close in Port Orchard for about four months.

Both closures allow crews to improve fish migration under the roadway.

Find out more about the project and how to get around the closures in our blog: https://wsdotblog.blogspot.com/2026/05/detours-ahead-fish-frenzy-brings-two.html

Underage drinking is over-hyped in pop culture—and the risks are all too real. Which is why knowing all the facts is so important.

Fact 1: Your brain is still developing. Alcohol can damage your memory and impair your impulse control, learning ability, and judgment.

Fact 2: It’s dangerous. Drinking is linked with 119,000 ER visits every year nationwide for people under 21, whether it’s injuries from a fall or getting your stomach pumped.

Fact 3: People who start drinking before age 15 are five times more likely to abuse alcohol later in life than those who begin drinking at or after age 21.

Make the most of every day by focusing on what brings you joy—instead of letting false ideas around underage drinking influence what you do.

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, May 23 for The Unforgotten Run to Tahoma. This year's event honors five veterans who passed away in Kitsap County over the past year and whose remains went unclaimed by family or friends, while proudly providing an es**rt for a fellow veteran — continuing a cherished tradition that has united the veteran's community across Kitsap County since 2011.

The Unforgotten Run to Tahoma Celebration of Life Ceremony, held every Memorial Day weekend, is hosted by the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners, Kitsap County Medical Examiner, Kitsap County Veterans Advisory Board and Combat Veterans International, with support from the City of Port Orchard.

Veterans and community members will gather at the County Administration Building Plaza, 619 Division Street, Port Orchard, for a brief ceremony that begins promptly at 10 a.m. to honor the lives and service of their fallen comrades.

The Unforgotten Run to Tahoma is dedicated to ensuring that no veteran is forgotten. The ceremony at the Administration Building is expected to attract hundreds of people this year. Organizers ask for the public’s patience and understanding as the motorcycle processional departs Division Street and makes its way down Sydney Avenue to Tremont Street on its way to Highway 16 at about 11 a.m. For those who wish to travel to the cemetery, instructions will be provided at the Administration Building before departure.
