As we recognize the 25th anniversary of 9/11, several of our educators, some of whom were students in our District at the time, recount their experiences. We continue our work to ensure this moment in our nation’s history, the lives tragically lost and the bravery of our first responders are never forgotten.

PORT JEFFERSON WELCOMES STUDENTS BACK FOR A SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL YEAR

The 2026–2027 school year is off to a wonderful start as students returned to our classrooms eager to learn, grow and achieve. Our administrators, faculty and staff enjoyed welcoming students back, and our educators and students excitedly embarked on their educational journeys together.

JOIN US FOR THE PORT JEFFERSON WALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY

Join us for the Port Jefferson School District Wall of Fame induction ceremony on September 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. We will honor two remarkable members of our District community: John R. “Bob” Estelle and Leslie E. “JJ” Goodman, Jr.

Bob Estelle was as a foundational figure in Port Jefferson education and athletics, serving as an impactful teacher, coach, athletic director and mentor in our District from 1951 to 1994. Former NFL player and class of 1968 alumnus Les JJ Goodman stands as one of the most accomplished athletes to ever wear the purple and white and continues to inspire Port Jefferson students and the community through his legacy of excellence and character.

The ceremony will take place at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Athletic Stadium and will be open to the public. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move indoors to the high school library, and space will be limited to family attendees only.

Through the District’s pursuit of all possible avenues in advocating for our football players to have an opportunity to play this season, the District has been granted a hearing with Section XI. PORT JEFFERSON SCHOOL DISTRICT'S 6–12 ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL WELCOMES NEW ROLE

Adam Sherrard is stepping into a new role as he enters his ninth year as an administrator in the Port Jefferson School District. Previously serving as the District’s Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics and Nursing, Mr. Sherrard was recently named the 6–12 Associate Principal. In this position, Mr. Sherrard will work alongside 6–12 Principal John Ruggero to lead Port Jefferson Middle School and Earl L. Vandermeulen High School. Read more: https://bit.ly/4zoOdQR.

PORT JEFFERSON SCHOOL DISTRICT SPECIAL EDUCATION OFFICE ANNOUNCES NEW LOCATION

The special education department’s office has relocated from the District administration building to Port Jefferson Middle School. The new address is 350 Old Post Road, Port Jefferson, NY 11777, and all department phone numbers will remain the same.

This new location will provide the department with increased access to students and staff in the middle and high schools. This centralized location also includes a conference room, where secondary-level meetings will take place as we collaborate on educating students. Paired with the elementary-level meetings taking place in our elementary school, these cooperative spaces and gatherings will enable us to best support our students and families.
