CECOS provides Seabees, Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) officers, facility engineers and environmental professionals with the necessary skills, knowledge and education to enhance lifelong learning and to provide quality support to the fleet. Naval Civil Engineer Corps Officers School (CECOS), located at Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme, California, provides Seabees, Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) of
ficers, facility engineers and environmental professionals with the necessary skills, knowledge and education to enhance lifelong learning and to provide quality support to the fleet. During World War II the original school trained over 10,000 civil engineer officers. Most of these officers were experienced engineers from the construction industry. In 1947 the school moved to the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme, California, and operated out of a World War II barracks for 44 years. In 1991 CECOS moved into its current 68,000 square foot state-of-the-art training facility. CECOS represents the pinnacle of professional military education for CEC officers, starting with the foundational training program designed to prepare newly commissioned CEC officers for their initial assignments. Upon graduation each student is ready to assume the challenging duties of a naval officer and engineer in support of the Navy's military construction force and shore installations.
