On this solemn 25th anniversary, we remember the sacrifices made on 9/11 and the sacrifices made following thereafter. Members of your Port Hueneme Police Department had the honor of attending a memorial ceremony with our partners at Ventura County Fire and our community members at Fire Station 53 this morning. The day is made even more moving for the members of both PHPD and VCFD as both agencies had personnel who responded to ground zero after that devastating day. Both of our local agencies had personnel respond to New York in the weeks and months after 9/11 to offer our assistance with the recovery efforts. It will forever be held in our hearts and minds. What will also be held in remembrance, is the unity felt as Americans among our community and all communities across this great nation in the days, weeks, and months following the attacks. Never Forget.

We remember the lives lost, honor the heroes who emerged, and recognize the strength, courage, and unity that brought our nation together in the face of tragedy. We also honor the victims’ families and all those who continue to serve and protect our communities.

Take steps now to create an emergency plan, build a disaster supply kit, and stay informed so you and your family are prepared when it matters most.

Good Boy Gator!!! Yesterday our law enforcement partners with the Ventura County Sheriffs Office worked an investigation in our community and served a search warrant at a residence in Port Hueneme. PHPD Officer Tubbs and K-9 Gator assisted with the search. Gator’s assistance on the search led to the discovery of a significant amount of co***ne, ma*****na, psilocybin, amphetamines, and illegal pills with some suspected of containing fentanyl. They also secured ammunition for fi****ms and money from the search. Thank you Officer Tubbs and Gator and thank you to our partners with VCSO! Public Safety is Teamwork!!!

Aircraft activity to increase at Naval Base Ventura County

POINT MUGU, Calif. (Sept. 3, 2026) - Residents of Ventura County will notice increased aircraft activity and noise beginning Sept. 9 as Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) hosts large force test events.

Multi-service aircraft, surface vessels and unmanned systems will be participating, staging and launching from Point Mugu. Aircraft participating in the event will operate largely during regular airfield hours, but extended airfield hours will be required to support some test events. Operations are expected to last approximately two weeks.

Residents in Camarillo, Oxnard and Port Hueneme may experience increased noise levels during peak times (8 a.m. to 7 p.m.).

Today is National Police K9 Day! Today we celebrate our amazing Port Hueneme PD K-9 Teams of Officer Joel Magana and Giorgio ( George ) and Officer Joe Tubbs and Gator! We thank them for their dedication and service. And we also thank our Port Hueneme Community for the continued support of our K-9 teams!

NEWS RELEASE:
District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that Samuel Matthew Rocha (DOB 01/25/93), of Port Hueneme, pled guilty on August 24, 2026, to second-degree murder in the death of Pedro Valdez. Rocha had previously been convicted by a jury in April of four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of battery. The jury was unable to reach verdicts on the remaining counts. The jury found the special allegation of causing great bodily injury in commission of a felony to be true. Now, four months later, Rocha pled guilty to murder and admitted to using his car as a deadly weapon.

“Rocha made the deliberate decision to use his vehicle as a weapon, killing 16-year-old Pedro Valdez and injuring four other young bicyclists,” Senior Deputy District Attorney Richard Simon said. “This conviction holds him accountable and brings a measure of justice to Pedro, his family, and the other victims.”

Another car goes to car jail! On Friday evening, one of your Port Hueneme Police Patrol Officers was in the area of Surfside Drive along Hueneme Beach. The officer heard a vehicle driving recklessly and then drove towards the vehicle only to see the driver continuing to drive recklessly in the area. The vehicle then sped off. ( this was possibly to get out of the area before one of our protective beach area residents called the police, but unfortunately for the driver, the police were already in the area. )

Your PHPD Officer caught up to the vehicle as it continued to drive recklessly on Hueneme Road into the City of Oxnard driving at high speeds and running red lights. The vehicle was stopped, the driver was arrested and the vehicle was impounded. DO NOT COME TO HUENEME BEACH AND DRIVE RECKLESSLY! You and your vehicle could go to jail. Your PHPD Officers are dedicated to keeping your streets and neighborhoods safe every day and every night.
