Port Hueneme Police Department

Port Hueneme Police Department The Official page of the Port Hueneme Police Department. Port Hueneme (pronounced "Wy-nee'mee") is a seaside community in Ventura County, California.

Port Hueneme is located 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles and 40 miles south of Santa Barbara. The City's name derives from a Chumash word (Wene'mu) meaning "resting place." Today's Port Hueneme is located halfway between two larger Chumash settlements, today's Malibu and Ventura. The first post office in the community was in Wynema. When Thomas R. Bard laid out the town in 1872, he called it Huen

eme. The name was changed to Port Hueneme after the Port of Hueneme was built in 1939. Visitors to the City can find out more about Port Hueneme's rich heritage at the Port Hueneme Historical Museum. Incorporated in 1948, the City of Port Hueneme has seen much dramatic progress since its incorporation. Residents consistently cite the high quality of life offered due to planned development, excellent public facilities and responsive City services as being primary reasons for choosing to live in the City. A commitment to maintain high standards for a clean and attractive appearance of the City continues to be a major priority. The importance of preserving and enhancing existing amenities to ensure the long-term health and vitality of the community is recognized as well. Port Hueneme became a Charter City effective December 1996, following Port Hueneme voter approval in the November 1996 election.

Congratulations to Parking Officers Rachel Perez and Clarisa Vasquez. They both received the Port Hueneme Police Department 2026 Support Services Employee of the Year Award. The PHPD employees voted and both received the most votes, and the same number of votes, out of all of our eligible support employees.

The role of parking enforcement is a difficult one and often unappreciated by some because they issue parking tickets. The role is bigger than that. Parking enforcement is part of traffic safety and public health/livability efforts. However, what some may not know is that our Parking Enforcement Officers also respond to help at traffic collisions and other emergency calls. They also help citizens with directions and other public information matters. In addition to all of this, they are another set of eyes for the patrol officers and call in suspicious activity. They often locate and recover stolen vehicles and get them returned to the auto theft victims. There is a lot they do behind the scenes for our community, and they are dedicated members of our team!
