With the passing of Memorial Day, we would like to take a moment to recognize one more "Professional" NMCB 5 lost in the last year.
EOC Gregory Moseley
06 January 1984 - 13 January 2025
EOC (SCW) Gregory W. Moseley was a dedicated and accomplished Equipment Operator Chief in the United States Navy. A native of Placerville, CA, he enlisted in April 2005 and began his journey in the Seabees at Equipment Operator ‘A’ School in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. His first duty assignment took him to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) THREE in Port Hueneme, California, where he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq; Okinawa, Japan; Bagram, Afghanistan; Djibouti, Africa; and Chin-Hae, South Korea. His dedication and skill earned him a promotion to Second Class Petty Officer and qualification as a Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist.
Chief Moseley was not only an expert in his field but also a mentor and leader who shaped the careers of countless sailors. His time at Naval Construction Training Center (NCTC) Port Hueneme as the Leading Petty Officer for the Equipment Operator Advanced ‘C’ School allowed him to develop the next generation of Seabee Equipment Operators, earning his Master Training Specialist (MTS) qualification. He took pride in his ability to pass on knowledge, ensuring that those under his instruction were not just technically proficient but also prepared to lead.
His leadership continued with NMCB FIVE, where he completed multiple deployments, serving as Platoon Commander and Projects LCPO. He was known for his ability to lead from the front, never asking of his sailors what he would not do himself. His guidance and mentorship were instrumental in the development of junior sailors and junior officers alike, many of whom credit their own success to the lessons learned from him. In 2017, he was selected for Chief Petty Officer, a testament to his unwavering commitment to the Navy and the Seabees.
At First Naval Construction Regiment, Chief Moseley played a key role in overseeing major construction efforts, including the placement of 74,000 tons of asphalt in Corpus Christi, Texas. As Training LCPO (R7C), he ensured the readiness of 1,800 personnel across four units, taking a personal interest in their growth and success. His final assignment brought him back to NMCB FIVE as the Alfa Company Operations LCPO, where he remained a steadfast leader and role model. His sailors respected him not just for his expertise but for his ability to inspire, challenge, and develop them into stronger professionals and individuals.
Chief Moseley’s distinguished service was recognized with numerous awards, including two Navy Commendation Medals, six Navy Achievement Medals, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Award, two Battle Efficiency "E" Ribbons, four Navy Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and eleven Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.
Beyond his impressive military career, Greg was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a mentor to all who had the privilege of serving alongside him. He led with integrity, strength, and an unwavering sense of duty, always putting the needs of his team before his own. His presence left a lasting impact on those who served with him, and his legacy will live on through the countless sailors he mentored and inspired.
Chief Moseley will be deeply missed, but his memory and the lessons he imparted will continue to guide those who follow in his footsteps.
Fair Winds and Following Seas, Chief.
