Coastal Cleanup Day is just two days away! Join us at Hueneme Beach on Saturday, September 19, from 9:00 a.m. to noon for the 42nd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day. Volunteers will meet at the Alaska Flight 261 Memorial, south of the Port Hueneme Pier.

As the 2026–27 rainy season approaches, take a few minutes to review your flood risk and insurance options. Port Hueneme is mapped as FEMA Zone X (Shaded), which means moderate flood risk, not zero risk. Most homeowners insurance policies do not cover flood damage.

Don’t wait until a storm is approaching to look into coverage. Most new National Flood Insurance Program policies generally have a 30-day waiting period, so now is a good time to compare your options.

The Port Hueneme Historical Museum is continuing its free Distinguished Speaker Series on Saturday, September 26, at 11:30am for a conversation with Dr. Jose M. Alamillo, speaking on the topic of "Solo el Pueblo Salva al Pueblo (Only the People Save the People): Mutual Aid Relief Efforts in the 1928 St. Francis Dam Disaster"

Dr. Alamillo is a professor in the Chinana/o Studies Department at California State University, Channel Islands. He is the author of "Making Lemonade out of Lemons: Mexican American Labor and Leisure in a California Town" (2008); "Deportes: The Making of Sporting Mexican Diaspora" (2020); and "Untold Legacies of Ventura County: An Ethnic Studies Reader". He is researching the Politics of Relief and Flood Disasters in Ethnic Mexican Communities in the US-Mexico Borderlands.

Admission is free, but arrive early to get a good seat.
These speaking engagements will be featured bi-monthly, so please be sure to follow us for future dates and topics. The museum's regular operating hours are Saturday & Sunday from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The City of Port Hueneme Public Works Department recently completed improvements along Pleasant Valley Road to enhance parking and pedestrian safety. The project included a new road surface, 13 additional parking spaces, a new high-visibility crosswalk, and brighter, longer-lasting thermoplastic pavement markings. These improvements will help create a safer and more accessible roadway for residents, pedestrians, and motorists.

Help protect our coast during the 42nd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 19, from 9:00 a.m. to noon! Volunteers at Hueneme Beach will meet at the Alaska Flight 261 Memorial, south of the Port Hueneme Pier, and join participants across California in removing trash and recyclables from beaches, waterways, and surrounding communities.

Last year, hundreds of volunteers at Hueneme Beach collected more than 2,500 pounds of trash and recyclables. Help us build on that success in 2026! Every item removed helps protect wildlife and prevent pollution from reaching the ocean.

We also honor the victims’ families and all those who continue to serve and protect our communities.

The City will be adding diagonal parking along Bolker Drive between Sharon Lane and Hemlock Road to improve parking conditions and create approximately 20 additional spaces.

Striping is scheduled for Friday, September 11th. Parking will not be permitted along this section of Bolker Drive until the work is complete. Please follow all posted signs and move vehicles from the work area in advance.

Good Boy Gator!!! Yesterday our law enforcement partners with the Ventura County Sheriffs Office worked an investigation in our community and served a search warrant at a residence in Port Hueneme. PHPD Officer Tubbs and K-9 Gator assisted with the search. Gator’s assistance on the search led to the discovery of a significant amount of co***ne, ma*****na, psilocybin, amphetamines, and illegal pills with some suspected of containing fentanyl. They also secured am******on for fi****ms and money from the search. Thank you Officer Tubbs and Gator and thank you to our partners with VCSO! Public Safety is Teamwork!!!
